What is everybody's go to elk call? I know it depends on circumstances but what do you use the most? Majority of the time I am using my bully bull grunt tube with a raging bull diaphragm or my who's yrr daddy. I use both with confidence and success. What are you reaching for to fire up bulls and then to suck them in?

The all star is currently my number one go to reed.....for two decades it was a reed by glen berry, but for the last two seasons the all star has fired them up.

My favorite calls are made by glacier country hunting calls. ORANGE ENRAGER makes some great sounds

Actually that's not too Old School, for a bite & blow call the Fightn Cow call is our # 1 seller by a long shot! Lots of hunters use them. (grin)

I've used all the reeds mentioned & have done well with them, the Raging Bull was one of my favorites, that is until the Mistress came our way, it's the best reed I've used. When choosing a mouth reed I look for an All Purpose reed, in so many situations when in encounters things can happen fast so I don't want to be fumbling around looking for a certain reed for a certain sound, I need one that does it all & does it well from soft cow sounds to Contact Buzz to location bugles to lip bawls. The mistress does all this & with power if need be, the Raging Bull is my 2nd choice for an all purpose reed. But if I'm working a non vocal herd bull (no cows in heat) I really like the Mellow Yellow for unbelievable control with cow mews & whines, I inject a bull with light to medium raking tree/brush, light foot stomping & light panting through my bugle tube. When inside 100 yards or so this method can really raise curiosity as this intruder bull is displaying for this cow right under his nose. Actually this method works under many situations.

So my two favorites are the Mistress & Mellow Yellow! I have a place for both & of course the new 2015 Chuckler.

Mike, we've been having a injection mold system for a New Chuckler since last Nov. - You can see its unique design outside & the inside is corrugated like the old vacuum hose style bugles & like an elks throat. The two noticeable slots 5" apart are for the two silicone tone dampeners. The bugle is aprox .80 thickness, the closest one to it that we miched is .65. This allows for some very high pitched bugles that will reach incredible distances. The mouth opening is 1-1/4" so very nice for mouth reed users. All in all it's a very well built solid elk bugle with unique design. Oh, & notice the camo pattern is of our own design, it's all elk! (grin)

I tried several and just ordered a few more to try but I haven't found one yet that's as easy to blow as the Mellow Yellow...which is important because when it comes to calling elk, I am still a novice.

You know.......after that custom jobber that you sent me with the wide opening, I still prefer the narrow opening of my older one. I can still use it, but after several years I think I've just gotten accustomed to using the narrow one. But that looks very interesting......might have to try it out and add it to the collection.

Paul,

Do you offer a package with your new Chuckler along with the Mistress and Mellow Yellow? Oh and the instructional DVD for those of us who have never used a call before! :) (anything else I'm missing?)

Ya, but there's always something better out there on the horizon than what we're already using..........isn't there?

Everything I use works very well. But..........what if there's something better?

My go-to reed is Bugling Bull's Mellow Yellow. I love the cow calls I get out of it, and it also works well for young bull bugles.

I tried the All Star and really liked the feel of the reed, but the plastic dome let to much air through the top of my mouth and I couldn't get much volume out of it. I think it comes down to what actually fits your mouth. By the looks of it, the Mistress probably wouldn't work for me if the All Start didn't since they are both plastic dome tops.

I got Elknut's new Chuckler a few days ago and it is an awesome tube.

Ridge Ghost, thanks for the feedback!

You know I've messed with a hoochie mamma in the past & it's not a bad call, I used it in addition to my mouth reeds as an additional cow whine & took a nice 5 point using a moderate breeding sequence. The bull came in about 5 minutes into that method for a 35 yard shot. I used it but I would not personally use it as my goto cow call in most situations. (grin)
