Go Lite reborn...by BA?

I purchased the BA Yahmonite 5 for my CO elk OTC 2nd Season hunt and it worked great. Same tent as the Shangri-La 5 but with a BA Logo on it. Worked awesome! I plan on getting a stove jack and stove for it for next years hunting season.

The SL5 tarp is considerably lighter but it's made in China and has only 1 door..

I really like the nest on the SL5 as opposed to most tarps/tipis..

So there's Pros and Cons..

IMO: if I was using a nest I'd use the SL5, if not and I had 2 people I'd prefer the Cimarron..

I love my old SL5

I've liked the idea of the Golite SL3 for sometime so this really interest me but now I am trying to decide if I would be better served with a Lightweight tent like the Fly Creek UL2. I have an older EMS Forrester that is heavier but could serve similar purposes.

I guess I like the idea of having space the SL3 gives more than anything...

From the thread on BPL it looks like a limited run that BA purchased when GoLite went under. The SL5 is a great shelter but for the money, unless you need the full nest, I like the Cimarron much better.

X2.... Plus if you add the cost to have a stove jack sewn in the SL5, Cimarron is a much better value.

I used the BA Copper Spur 2UL last year for a Solo hunt and the BA Yahmonite 5 (GoLite SRL 5) this year with a hunting partner and I do not see my Copper Spur being used again anytime soon- even on a Solo hunt. The extra room and headspace is great. FYI- STP and Campsaver had the Yahmonite 3 and 5 on Sale a few weeks ago for much less than STP is asking now- Im sure there will be sales again soon but then again im sure there is only a limited amount of these tents in inventory.

Thanks for the info. After the reading the comments on the Cimarron and checking it out on other threads, it might be my new future tent.

They are only rating these old SL's as 3 season on the BA description. Are these not 4 season worthy? I flattened my CS2 last week with a few hundred pounds of wet snow. If not for my bad ass bag, I would have had to bail off the mountain. I am looking at a small tipi style for late season. I would likely lean toward the SL3 size or a BT2. I would like only a half nest for these. Are all of these Tipi style shelters good for 4 season use if you use the good pole?

I don't think the SL5 was ever 4 season rated.

I now have great confidence in my sl3's winter performance, I wanted to test it and some other equipment before I committed to taking it on my next backcountry trip stateside, so went and did an overnighter in some pretty harsh conditions. There was snow on the ground and winds were gusting to 65mph! I think the fact the packed snow was frozen helped keep my pegs in. Didn't sleep a wink due to wind noise and thinking that both myself and the tent were going to take off during the gusts. The pole is stout but was rattling. Sl3 was paired with a one person nest from Bearpaws wilderness designs, which also got a big thumbs up.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/interesting/2014-janwind scroll down to Feb 8th and 9th for the wind gust speeds, I was camped right under where it says 65mph, 800ft short of the summit of Snowdon.

Plenty of space inside.

Didn't experience any wet snow, just harsh winds and hail that sounded like it was shredding the tent.

I use mine in the snow. Search youtube for SL5 in the wind and snow - lots of videos out showing them in high-winds with and without snow. I don't know that I'd want to be in one over 50mph, but I haven't tried it either.

I'd only be really worried about a massive wet Sierra dump, since your only vertical support is the pole and wet stuff tends to collapse the sides (and thus, your living space.)

Get a full-inner as well. I've snow-camped with a mesh inner (my wife wanted the bathtub floor) and the full-inner would have been nicer for condensation and marginal extra warmth.

If you're going into truly extreme 4-season territory (mountaineering) , I'd just go with a true 4-season.

Just wanted to let everyone know that REI has the ba3 and ba5 in the outlet now. They are 25% off plus a extra 25% off with the promo code they got going.

I'm wondering if the big Agnes yahmonite 5 version is the same as the Golite sl5. I've read that they are the exact same and was a limited run

Does anybody know

Thanks

If you have guy lines w/snow stakes it sure helps.... I didn't use any lines and got a decent amount of snow with my SL3. The before and after picture.
