G21 Gen 4: aftermarket trigger, night sights, finger groove removal. Then new barrel in .460 Rowland. Now it is fun. Before it was an OK pistol in a boring chambering with a spongy trigger that didn't fit my hand well. But it was ugly and reliable, so it had that going for it.

Glock's are fine, but they are not the perfection the website says they are. Walther, SIG and Springfield, maybe S&W, have taken the basic design farther, IMO.

Sights are a must in my opinion. Running idot pros that I'm really happy with. The gen 5 triggers aren't too bad compared to some others. Some glock triggers get good after 5k rounds or so. I undercut my trigger guard some but that's personal preference. I think most frame and slide mods are a waste of money because most people aren't good enough shooters for any of it to make a difference. Anything beyond sights and triggers just makes them look cool unless you are garandthumb or Lucas from trex.

I really hope you aren't saying a Springfield xd is superior to a glock.

Sure. Note that these mods are for gen 4 and earlier guns. Gen 5 triggers are better and have some variance to the below...

The trigger connector is a part that offers the easiest way to mod the trigger pull weight on a glock. The OEM part is about 6# and a bit gritty on gen 4 and below. Probably the biggest bang for your buck in terms of getting a glock to shoot better. Some polish it a bit with a Dremel and reinstall. Others go with an after market. I used the Ghost patrol version on some guns that I want to be in that 5.5# trigger pull range (self defense) and the 3.5# version on some guns that I use in pistol matches. Swapping the part takes a couple of minutes, a punch and a kitchen knife. A quick search of YouTube will turn up a good how to on this. Here is a source on the part:

The trigger polish is easy as well. Most call it the $0.25 trigger job. It involves a disassembly of the slide and part of the trigger group. You polish about 6 contact points in the trigger mechanism with Flitz or polishing compound. A Dremel or some Q-Tips work well. This is a good write up and there are some good videos as well. Probably takes less than an hour and it will smooth up the whole trigger action.

The slide release is a 5 minute swap job.

In terms of other mods, I have never chopped up the slide on mine. I wouldn’t mind front cocking serrations but I use a sling shot method to cock and clear malfunctions when I am shooting with a purpose. I have big hands so grip reduction isn’t my thing. I stippled one gun. Easy to do with a wood burner and some really go in for it. If you are going to add an RMR or something think about an MOS version or aftermarket slide. You may come out ahead vs. having one cut.

Excellent!!!!!
Great info. Really appreciate it.

In some respects, yes, Springfield has a better design.

XDs are less reliable and have more catastrophic malfunctions that many other quality handguns. Many top shooters spread the information that they are not a good choice as a defensive firearm. This is all second hand information, I've never owned an XD but theres a reason why I wont.

I kept the original trigger and have no plans to change it out.
I did install an extended take-down bar. That helps immensely with dissemble. I also installed the Ameriglo sights and a steel back plate.

Its just my opinion. The XD has some features that I think Glock could learn from. Like the grip and fully supported chamber.

I realize you said this is all second hand info ie. He said, she said, school yard garbage, but I would love to see anything documenting this claim.

I have a couple things done to my 19 but everything else is all stock.

19 has a lone wolf barrel, extended slide lock, steel city arsenal slide, upgraded trigger but don’t remember what it is. I bought the lower for $50 off gun broker and pieced it together a few years ago.

What you linked literally says it is anecdotal and the same things can be found for Glock. It is nothing more than an internet opinion piece.

We aren't going to get anywhere with this. You keep liking xds. I will keep liking glocks more. Most of it is personal preference, not like we are arguing over hi points anyway lol

I agree we probably won't change each others opinions. It just irks to see opinion spouted as fact. Guess I got a bee in my bonnet.
For the record (as if it matters) my edc is a Glock, but when I need something small I look elsewhere.

Beat the hell out of my XD and XDS. Never a failure of any kind.

I’m in the market for Glock 20 Gen4.

I just like shooting guns! Lol

One of the nicer Glock builds I have seen. I like that slide. Thanks for sharing that one.

Glock shooter here.....I'm no expert, but I shoot Glocks a lot....I put over 3 cases of Ammo through mine this summer.

MY TAKE; It depends on your intended use.

If its a self defense pistol...modding the trigger parts can work against you. For example, removing the "Take-up" or installing a very light trigger in a self defense weapon is not advisable by all expert sources. I do the 25 cent trigger job on my Glocks and call it good.

If you want to shoot in the various pistol competitions....changing some parts puts you in a whole different class.

If its just a range gun- mod away. Worth noting- the only Glocks I've seen malfunction are modded....or from limp wristing [I take my daughter and nieces shooting and numero uno is GRIP the gun!]

The guys that can shoot these Glocks will tell you your best course of action is to run a case of ammo through it stock....essentially, learn how to shoot it. Its not the arrow, its the Indian. A lot of first time shooters have a hard time being accurate with Glocks due to poor fundamentals. Yeah, the trigger on a Glock is tougher than the trigger on a 1911. The 1911 will hide some fundamental mistakes making those pistols more accurate for a guy that doesn't shoot all that much.

Why do many professionals- Navy Seals, Special Forces guys-etc love Glocks? Because they always go Bang....and they have learned how to shoot a handgun.

The best instruction I've seen on shooting a pistol is Rob Lathums,
Aiming is Useless

Some 'high speed' shooter @ an IDPA shoot modified his Glock trigger parts. He was in the starting box, loaded a magazine, racked the slide and the pistol discharged....

If you order the slide from them now it comes with the rmr cut and a plate, they offered it when I bought mine a couple years ago but it was extra so I didn’t pay to have the rmr cut and plate on mine.
