When the Glendfield model A (Gen 1 Ruger) came out I didn’t think much about them, but seeing as you can get them for under $400 I started thinking. A .308 at 6.3lb shooting the NAS3 load (175 grain at 2725 out of a 20 inch barrel) would be a heck of a light, general knock around elk rifle. Mount a 2X12 or one of the 1X10LPVO’s and it would be a great beater gun. Anyone look at these yet for a cheap backup/beater?

I have a Gen 1 Ruger. Not a bad cheaper gun. Two issues you can work with. First feeding was bad. I got single stack 450 Bushmaster mags and they worked great (in a 308). Second the bolt doesn't lock in place. You could theoretically lose it. Actually happened to a friend when he strapped a rifle to his pack. Something to watch.
