While I have at times lusted after a Model 70 Supergrade in Maple or a Ruger # 1 in 7X57, most of the time I appreciate the value and simplicity of the Savage bolt guns. I have decided it is time to add another.
With a discount I am blessed to have I can pick up one of the new Savage Core Hunters with the Accustock V2 for the same price as the Savage Axis 2 Pro. I like the newest version with the darker stock and the spiral fluted barrel but understand that is just my personal likes. At first it would seem like a no-brained but here is why I am going back and forth. While I am intrigued by the new Accustock V2, I don’t think I will use the LOP adjustment other than having it all the way out to the 13.75 max which is the same LOP as the Axis. The adjustable comb height is nice, but this rifle is going to be a simple .308 all around right now and I am going to probably ditch the pic rail on either to mount a scope as low as possible. While the Accustock has the potential to be more accurate it is also close to a pound heavier. That is more than the weight of the suppressor I plan to use.
I could keep going back and forth for each but what I am looking for is which one would you choose for a no frills, truck gun that will basically be a tester for some NAS3 ammo. Pros/Cons of each choice?
