Many of the larger cities in MT have ok medical car for emergencies as well as good dental care. Sure, you may have to drive an hour to get to one. For unusual or extreme illnesses, you might have to leave the state. I’m personally ok with that.
“Western MT” is a lot of area. It’s bigger than a lot of states.
Do look at the climate data for the areas you are interested in. The weather can vary a lot depending on which side of the mountain ranges you are on.
Politics varies as well. For instance, Missoula locked down for Covid while the county just South of it did the two weeks to slow the spread. Similarly, communities South of Missoula explicitly said kids aren’t getting time off for the kid protests while Missoula encouraged it.
All of the voting data is online. Seems to me that CA, WA, and OR are getting so bad that even Ds are moving out. Time will tell what that does to MT.
Not to get political, but it seems like anywhere “good” you move gets overrun by Ds. The only places that don’t are out in the suburbs or small little towns because you actually need to work and you won’t get “drowned out” if you are a moron. With everything in life, moderation is key I guess. I’m moving from South Carolina (outside of Charleston) back to CA soon because I can’t do the weather and most the people here thay live around me sold in CA and are dems. I’m fortunate to live in a wealthy area, but it’s a bunch of CA dems. Figure if I live by all of them in bad weather might as well move back to where I was born and raised.
