Has anyone found a good way to organize their gear in their house or garage? Right now I'm just using Rubbermaid bins for the small stuff and clothes, but I'd like to find a better way to keep everything organized so I don't have to shuffle through stuff all the time. Obviously, a closet organizer would be ideal for the small stuff and clothes, but what about treestands/blinds/ladders, etc.?

Any pictures of a well organized gear room, or ideas on storing treestands and other large items?

Right now, my gear is organized in that its all sitting on top of my chest freezer waiting for me to reorganize it.

I have mine in rubbermade drawers in the garage on top of an old counter I pulled out of my store when it got new counters. Gloves and hats and such in one. First aid, fire starting and misc. in one. Knives, black tape, saws, kill kit type stuff, in another. Cooking stuff and water filter in a box next to the rubbermaid drawers. Ammo in three ammo cans next to everything. One each for handgun, rifle and shotgun. Clothes in a rubbermade container inside my closet.

Most of my hunting clothes are stored in a 7 drawer dresser in the garage. Some of my gear is on gorilla racks in the garage, but most of the camping/backpacking stuff is stored in a locked shed.

I will try to get some pics when I get back there, but I have a couple of cabinets in the garage. Going off of memory, the largest is 7'H x 48"W. Hard sided gun cases are stored on top, inside I have a couple of pack/pack frames hanging, then plastic totes stacked on top of each other with labels as to what is in each one. Boots are on the bottom with various plastic tubs containing shelters and various other gear needs such as fire making, knives, water purification, etc.
The unit next to that is 6'H x 40"W and has sleeping bags, quilts, and bivy's hanging up in it with some turkey hunting gear. The unit next to that is 6'H x 36"W. It stores dehydrated food, and some upland and predator hunting gear. All of my turkey decoys are stored on top, as well as my one remaining tree stand.

Other than my ocd solution to the small things. Ziplocks with contents list in tubs. My basement looks like camp after a bear went through it. Following this thread!

I dream of building a load out room like we had in our team rooms in the army. Someday.

Until then I use totes for clothes and small gear. I have some bigger longer tool box type totes for packs that I use in season for scent control but they get hung after season. I hang ladder stands and tree stands in a shed.

Dry bags for clothing (once dried out and ready to be stored). Rubbermaid containers of various sizes for everything else. I try to separate things "logically" and then just write in black marker on the outside what's in each one.

Bigger stuff like stands just gets stacked in a corner of the basement, but I'm limited on space and don't really have a better option.

I downsized. We moved across the country and into a smaller house. I realized that I didn't need 90% of the gear I had and I only had because it was a good deal. So I down sized and now everything I use to hunt with fits in a mid sized Rubbermaid action tracker.

shit, this is a chronic problem for me. Between a growing family and running a home-based biz...i make available use of every square inch 'round here.

The best decision i made was making use of the free space below the ceiling and above the garage door. I was able to add 200 sq feet to my garage storage capacity by suspending shelves from the ceiling joist beams. Granted, some garages don't have the ceiling height...

This is one thing that I'm planning on doing. Just need to find the time to get it done. The wife and I just built a new house, so I'm basically starting from scratch again. I'm planning on doing a 20ft long suspended cabinet along the back wall of the third stall in the garage. This will help with storing some of the larger items.

Has anyone run into issues storing clothing and/or sleeping bags/quilts in the garage? Rodents, smells, etc.? I've got quite a bit of storage space built into the unfinished basement, but I don't want to fill that up until I get it finished.

That's what part of my basement looks like. But I have all my archery stuff in one trunk, another trunk with any type of cold weather gear and rifle hunting stuff (orange). Then I have several of the yellow topped black bins with actual camping gear and stuff for base camp, and a separate one for backpacking camp stuff.

I keep my clothes in the giant zip lock bags. Then put those inside large rubbermaid totes. You can fit a ton of clothes in one of those oversized totes. You can use ziplock like a vaccum sealer on clothes that arent down, etc.

I do the Rubbermaid bins as well, but I do keep a few select items in my house. Anything that is waterproof (tents, bivy, rain gear, backpack, etc). I've lived in Florida and Arizona and the extreme temperatures have ruined a few tents, etc. I also remove batteries from everything after losing a rangefinder and radio to exploding batteries. I'd like to keep most of it in the house, if I could...

I made a section of 3 shelves in my garage, everything is in totes but I also left out the middle bottom shelf, secured two 1/2" steel rods parrallel along the 5' length of the shelf with carabiners clipped all along and hang my packs off of that. Having 2 kids and a wife that backpacks and climbs with me we have an embarrassing number of packs that need storage.

My next place is going to be a kitchen and gear room with a house built around it.

We just moved into a new house a few weeks ago, its a perfect time to re-organize.. I'm going to lay everything out on the basement floor, and purchase differing size toobloxes from Home Depot. Husky makes some pretty inexpensive boxes that feel pretty darn sturdy for the price. That way, items that dont much space can be seperated into smaller boxes. My problem has always been, I would put multiple items into a big rubbermaid bin, and then never remember where they were, and end up having to go through multiple bins to find stuff. I'm thinking I will sort stuff by its use. So, camp cookware in one, warm weather hunting clothing in one, cold weather hunting gear in another, etc. etc.

I don't have any tree stands so I can't help you there. I have a bunch of the Pelican tough boxes I got in the army. I've got one for hunting specific gear, ie, orange, optics, calls, etc. Small stuff goes on trays that fit on top. Another box is for sleep stuff, ie, tents, bags, pads, etc. The other box is backpacking stuff like clothes, maps, cooking. And the last is for family gear.
