If you were to load up your pack (specify) and head out of town (post-apocolypse) what would be in your ruck? What is YOUR gear list for survival with comfort? Obviously you would have to be able to take game, sleep and drink water. This is a solo mission (not with kids or wife).

While a rifle is a good thought, if we are talking about indefinite sustainability, I would take a bow. Much better chance of recovering arrows for reuse. Of course this is just for a normal apocalypse and not a zombie apocalypse.

BTW, why did you bail on the wife and kids??? :D

I can get a bow, or anything else for that matter, with the rifle. :)

Whatever is in your typical spike camp setup PLUS ways to filter water, make fire, and kill animals that do not take consumables like chlorine tablets (water purification) or matches (for fire making) or bullets (for taking game). So, I would include

~ A bow and arrow with fixed blade broadheads and a variety of small game and fishing heads. Also, sharpening things for my broadheads, knives, axes, etc.
~ Stuff for making snares and deadfalls; 550 cord, booby trap wire (thin but strong wire)
~ A ferro rod for starting a fire via flint and steel, plus a magnesium bar which will last longer than other firestarters
~ A pot of some sort for boiling water
~ Clear plastic bottles for making water filters (to get the big stuff out) and then for use with the solar purification method to kill the bacteria and viruses

Man, if some people out there had to survive with a bow as their only weapon I'd have to say.... They prolly wouldn't make it too long :)

I suppose that they don't make lightweight generators and frigdes. I like the concept of a simple bow also as you might be able to make own arrow or string if necessary. Debating on which gun to take. I like the 22lr concept, but wonder if better with a muzzleloader or a simple caliber that can be reloaded so all you would need would be 20-30 pieces of brass, powder, primers and some bullets (make more from lead as needed but would need ability to form bullets). Interesting thought to ponder. Franklin, thinking about walking out on civilization???

500 rounds of .22 would be lighter than your reloading supplies. And there is a sh!t load of .22 out there, because every time it hits the stores, it get bought up quick!

I think the overall idea is a poor strategy for dealing with the situation unless you have no other option but...

Fighting with a .22 is pretty funny. Good luck with that. The posed question is not just a typical survival situation if you have done any research on the subject. I will be choosing my scoped AR-15 for this 'job' and taking as much ammo as possible. At least 500 rounds but probably more. That's about 25-30 lbs. of rifle and ammo that will pay for itself very quickly.

AR-15 with LOTS of ammo and probably a 9mm with LOTS of ammo. If this is truly a post apocalyptic state. You will have to fight to keep what you have and kill to get what you need!
