Tag cost is the same. All other costs besides gas the same. But if you don't come back with any meat, is it worth not spending the extra couple hundred bucks on gas?
All other costs are not the same as last year. Food, ammo, gun prices, gear, etc are all more expensive right now than they were a year ago. I will say ammo is more readily available, but at significantly higher costs.

That being said, it's not going to stop most non-residents (including my group that I bring out every year) from making the trip. It sucks, but everything in the last 2 years has sucked, so nothing new.

My BIL and I are out. Gas prices, or potential gas prices, are part of it. The overall cost of it increasing significantly had us headed this direction anyway, but the gas prices were the final nail in the coffin.

The conflict could be over before then and prices will go down thereafter as well.

My question to you would be - Do you think your chances of success are greater in the unit you generally hunt or somewhere else closer that you could get OTC?

Hard to tell. I know the unit pretty well now. All I have hunted is the same unit the last 7 years. I will probably end up going anyway! I live all year for this hunt. Just going solo all the way from Texas will certainly bite.

I like the responses in here. What's another $400.00- $500.00 dollars, I shouldn't let that stop my hunt!

Most out of state hunters will adjust there life to have the additional funds on hand when it is time to hunt. Its not just the hunt it is everything that goes along with a trip into the mountains that it is hard to put a cost on for us who run the daily rat race. I have multiple out of state trips that are still a go...

A real life picture of me and @Hunter Noe heading to Wyoming this year, putting the screws to Putin.

If it continues to increase at the rate it is I could definitely see it affecting some guys decision to go hunting.. Then again that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
As for everyone saying they gladly pay more to give Putin a hard time I think you’re nuts. I could care less what he does in Ukraine and much rather be be paying 2.20 for fuel right now.

No argument there. To clarify, the comment was comparing an OTC hunt to a unit the OP knew for potential success, both for this fall. In that context, the hunt is the hunt and your costs are the same apart from gas variance.

People like you are what is wrong with humanity; you are more concered with yourself and $2/gallon fuel than you are with women and kids getting killed by an out-of-control autocrat. Fortunately, there are plenty of MEN in this world who selfless, willing to sacrafice and do what is needed when simpletons like you cower and look away.

I know a couple different guys that come out every year they can get tags, they’re not coming this year, I think this is a trend we will see due to costs increasing. As mentioned previously in this post, literally everything is going up, and I don’t think we are anywhere near knowing the true cost of the election Yet. Unfortunately i think hard times are ahead and a lot of guys will back off.

I strapped a deer to the top of a rental car once. Worked out okay. Got some weird looks from people on the freeway but....whatever.

Just fly to where you're going, rent a car and save the fuel costs. Bet if you explore that option, the fuel price won't seem so bad.

Drive a vehicle that gets decent mileage. Go backpack style, and start from a trailhead you can get to in whatever that car is. It doesn’t take the giant trucks and trailers full of shit I see people drag across the country to go hunting.
