Anyone fly into Gander, and then rent a car to their outfitter ?
Looks like a 1 day flight, rather than a 2 1/2 day drive...

and then how do you get the meat home, and the trophy ?
I'd probably use a taxi guy in Newfoundland to avoid shipping a cape.

Most outfitters will pick you up at the airport. I flew into Deer Lake and the outfitter was waiting for me when I landed. Then we drove the 2 hours to the lodge. Things to keep in mind! Pack your hunting cloths, binos, and an extra pair of cloths in your backpack. The odds seem pretty good that your bag won't make it there. My bag didn't make it but my rifle did. Thankfully my outfitter had a surplus of stuff at their camp and gave me some cloth until my bag arrived 3 days later. My cousin had the same thing last year when he flew through Gander.
If I were to do it again, I would've drove. I ended up paying close to $1000 to fly (when all said and done with fees and airport parking). You also need to take into consideration that if you want your meat back with you there will be a fee to fly that home. I had my meat shipped to Michigan via a reffer and picked it up 2.5 months later. That of course involved another 6 hour round trip. I did leave the head in NF with a local taxidermist. I am having them do a Euro mount.
I also happened to get done hunting 4 days early and they shut the camp down and flew me out the next day. So I was stuck there without any means of transportation. I ended up re-booking my flight (I can't consider that part of my flight cost) which was another $400 out of pocket. That saved me a couple vacation days going that route. Otherwise I would have just been stuck there doing nothing. If I had my own vehicle I could have explored the island and took it all in. Something that I am regretting a little bit.
These are just my opinions on things. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

Check Central NL shipping for your meat and antlers. I believe most guides and processors are very familiar with the process. Cheaper than shipping meat and horns around here stateside even..

Agreed! It was worth the $450 bill that I had to pay for everything to be shipped here. I would hate to know what the overage fee would have been to fly it home plus the hassle at the airport. Shipping the meat home was the best option for me.

Did you use Countryside Abbatoir processors to process your meat? How was it? I started reading some disturbing reviews on the quality of their work that could be a deal breaker. Thanks..
