Game laws that might mess you up.

California has the strange law that you have to get a warden, biologist, or fire fighter, or post office employee to validate your tag after you kill a critter. (the list is longer but those are what i can think of) Its a strange outdated law that even the wardens cant figure out why it is still required. and stranger for California which has a law for everything is we dont have hunter orange requirements. I just think its strange that of all the states to not have a common law California is the outlier.
Agreed the lack of Orange requirements is bizarre in CA. As is the validation of the tag. I usually stop at the newest CalFire station to have it validated.

One strange CA rule, you can’t have a firearm in your possession during archery season. Meaning no handgun for protection. Unless you are a LEO, or have CCW (I think) and are hunting black bears only. If you have a deer tag and in the field during archery only seasons, and not a LEO, I think it’s a violation. There’s a lot of potentially conflicting information online but that’s how I interpret it.

That's because in most elk zones and general deer units there is no "Archery Elk Tag" or "Archery Deer Tag". The Elk A-zone tags that primarily have archery seasons often also have muzzleloader or short rifle seasons. I have bought many A-tags in the past with no intention of hunting the archery seasons. It would make no sense for the system to automatically add the archery permit to my purchase. Same with B-tags that are mostly rifle seasons but often have shorter archery seasons or muzzleloader seasons included. I don't see how they could resolve this in the way you suggested since most of the tags are still structured with multiple weapon opportunities.
Good point. For whatever reason the year after year I hunted an A Tag, did not get a deer tag, and it was added to my cart automatically. I am could be misremembering. An automatic prompt reminding about the archery validation would be helpful. But, at the end of the day, it is the individual’s responsibility, so I get it.

Missouri allows you to hunt the alternatives methods season with a canter fire pistol. So a 12.5” 308 braced AR is allowed. Missouri also requires “expanding type bullets” which could be taken to mean bullets like ELDMs or TMKs would be illegal. Idaho also has the 16lb rifle limit

In CA you can't carry a sidearm during archery season.
Weirder: in CA you can carry a sidearm during archery season while hunting anything but deer. Elk, bear, whatever else is fine.

California also lets you open carry while fishing in most areas, but carrying concealed without a CCW during the same act is illegal. Figure that one out

Some are better than others, but for some Indian reservations your tag is your permission to be on their land. As soon as it is filled you have 24hrs to leave said land, no matter what the dates of the hunt were. Fill your tag on Day 3 of a 10 day hunt, and still have 2 buddies in camp trying to fill their tags? You are technically trespassing after 24hrs… seems crazy but true. I had to leave, go buy a week fishing license, and return to be able to legally stay. Read the regulations carefully.

Double check that Bbob. I believe it has to be a maintained road. So most forrest service roads count, but a small 2 track wouldn't qualify.
No such clarifying designation on that. As a youngster I was politely informed by a G&F officer that shooting over that ranchers two track was dangerous and I could get a citation for doing it. I've known people that have been cited for just that.

2024 Arizona Revised Statutes

Title 17 - Game and Fish

§ 17-301 - Times when wildlife may be taken; exceptions; methods of taking

Section B. A person shall not take wildlife, except aquatic wildlife, or discharge a firearm or shoot any other device from a motor vehicle, including an automobile, aircraft, train or powerboat, or from a sailboat, boat under sail, or a floating object towed by powerboat or sailboat except as expressly permitted by the commission. No person may knowingly discharge any firearm or shoot any other device upon, from, across or into a road or railway.

Really...? Well hmmmm.... Glad I read this before Next Wednesday lol
why would you not take the tenderloins?

KS- need a hunting license to be a deer driver
KS - you need an orange hunting an archery-only NWR if there is a state gun season open
MS- you can get fined for your hunting dog trespassing on private property
MS - some refuges require to bring out entire animal, weigh and remove jaw bone.
I've screwed up Colorado's Evidence of sex law before. Several states, and common sense would say a set of horns/antlers would be sufficient eos for a bull/buck, but not CO

I'm glad someone posted about the bow case for ATV's in CO. I don't usually use an atv, but it's the first I've ever heard of requiring a case for a bow. Seems dumb, but if I'm hauling it around in atv it probably needs protection of a case anyway. I could see just jumping on as a passenger and getting hauled down the road to get dropped off and not having it cased.
