I had a good portion of deer meat spoil in my freezer years ago. Didn't know the garage circuit was on master bath GFCI. I immediately bought a freezer alarm. Only complaints, I cant hear it unless I am downstairs. Do you guys have anything that will alert your phone if an issue occurs?

Something like that would be pretty easy to make yourself with a little wiring knowhow and an arduino. I have setup alarming that sends an email before. Tons of stuff out there on YT and the arduino forum.

i have one of these on my chest freezer. i use it to turn the freezer into a fridge to age and cool meat for a few days before processing. it will also contact me if it goes outside my set temps.

I use a smartthings hub with a smart outlet. If the smart outlet does not "check in" every 4 hours, I get a notification, text, and an email. It recently saved me while out of town and the GFCI outlet tripped in the garage.

I need to at least switch out that outlet to a normal one and install a GFCI breaker instead.

Doesn't help me if the actual freezer dies, but its only a year old.

I work at a University where we have lots of freezers housing priceless samples. We recently had over a $1M claim because we lost power to a freezer. Alarms are a great idea!

While not an alarm there are one use products out there that you can put in the freezer to tell if a freezer has gotten above a safe temperature. Great for extra piece of mind.

Ice cubes?

I put ice cubes (whiskey balls) in a ziplock bag. If I ever find they aren't round I am tossing what was in the freezer.

I've got about 4 of these sensors for all my fridge/freezers - notifies my phone via bluetooth, tracks temp and sends alerts if too high/low, etc. Especially now with us stocking up food, last thing I need is to lose food!

fwiw, i started doing this after my kid unplugged the freezer one year. i lost about 30 lbs of choice cuts on my cow. luckily the rest of the meat was still in a different freezer.

My business includes a refrigerated warehouse. We use two models. Both will send email or text if your temp goes above a preset. Both use your WIFI. Temp Stick is great but uses only a battery, so eventually you'll need to change the battery (maybe after several years). I forgot to change my last one.

The LASCAR EL-WiFi-T has a backup battery but normally runs on a power supply. The cord is thin, so you might be able to run the cable through the door without any issues.
