I’ve eaten 20+ brands, and only three didn’t ruin my soul:

  1. Peak Refuel Chicken Alfredo
  2. Stowaway Gourmet Bison Beer Stew
  3. Heather’s Choice Packaroons for dessert
Mountain House still tastes like cardboard to me. What’s everyone’s go-to meal that actually feels like food?

I liked a few of the peak in the past but heard they went downhill a couple years ago in texture, I haven't had any newer ones. Their alfredo used to be my favorite.

Wild society vodka penne was reasonable tasting, wasn't to die for but I didn't have an issue consuming it. Their biscuits and gravy also were fine but I'd try out some other brand of that meal before circling around to see about better texture.

Pinacle foods, esp. the biscuits and gravy, gets praise (predating shoot2hunt talking them up). Shoot2hunt and others haven been talking up gastrognome also.

I revisited this in late summer. Tried a bunch on a couple of fishing trips. No clear cut winner. In general the peak refuel were the best. Good luck in your search!

Mountain House has a new cheesy pepperoni pizza bowl that is tasty. MH and Peak Refuel biscuits and gravy meals are pretty good. Peak mountain berry cobbler is good, american buffalo mac and cheese, MH spaghetti with beef marinara, cheesy beef enchilada bowl, and chili mac are good. Those are the ones I primarily try to stick to.

I thought PEAK was pretty darn good until I tried Pinnacle Foods. Their Italian Sausage Pasta is the best freeze dried meal I've ever had.

Their meals are on another level.

Never EVER will I eat another Backpackers Pantry or AlpineAire freeze dried again... I think I'd rather starve...
