My dad did some kind of forced hold the bird thing with 2 English Setters and ruined em - they still loved to hunt and point - great noses. Would NOT retrieve after dad did the rope on the toe thing on a table.

One of em used to take off with woodcock and bury them - we finally seen her do it. Grouse, pheasant, chukars, were fine, woodcock would get buried. LOL!
