There are a lot of logistics to consider. Timing is obviously everything for the different runs of salmon. If you are a week early or late you may be somewhat screwed depending upon how mobile the fishing operation is. Also, different rivers have nets set across them that will directly impact how many salmon run through them. One other fact is some runs and salmon species may be weaker than others. As an example, king salmon runs have been almost non-existent in many rivers in Alaska.

Obviously every lodge is different. Some may offer fly-outs while some may only have limited fishing within a boat ride of the lodge. To complicate things even further what type of fishing do you prefer? Flyrod, spinning rod, both? Back trolling, flies, lures, small vs large river, clear water vs milky? Some rivers may be a blast if you can sight fish to salmon while some it would be tough to fish with flyrod.

If it rains a bunch it can totally change stream flows and activity of salmon. If you are on a lodge on a big river that offers flyouts the weather may not be good for flying for several days? It's good to be at a lodge that offers several options depending upon the weather, fish runs, etc. Some areas you may be able to add in halibut, etc. There are so many different possibilities that can make or break a trip. It often helps to know the important questions to ask guides.

Kvichak is a great river in and of itself. Lots of great fishing if you can’t fly. Location is good for quick access to all the famous streams in the area, you’ll have a great trip.

Thank you. That was big consideration for me. I want options and mobility. I am already looking forward to it. Appreciate all the information
