First time First Liter. Just got it in mail, have been wanting one for the longest time! Idk what I was expecting, reading all the reviews, even watching videos but man is this thing WEIRD lol. The insulation on the chest and upper arms and merino on back makes its just feel and fit odd. I feel bad for the dudes who are jacked cause the tightness on my forearms but poofiness in the biceps is no bueno lol. Sleeves are made for orangutans too. I was more worried about the obsidians but those things a sweet (for the most part)! I think someone somewhere said they got redesigned them this year? I could use more rise in the pants tho feels like i'm getting a wedgy sometimes smh. It won't see much use for a while with summer now but I wanted to make sure I got it for my Oct backcountry Elk hunt (maybe I shoulda gone with the klamath?) I do really like the hood, tho it looks real stupid on, visibility is great. Maybe this is just what "technical" cut clothing is IDK but its not what I imagined.

The one thing I really hope gets better is just trying them on I can immediately feel the itchiness, not terrible but its there. I'm gonna be ordering some long johns and aerowool so hopefully thats better and then I won't even feel it with theses.

I've got the Sawtooth and I love it. You are right, it is a tighter fitting piece, but personally I like that about it. Makes for zero added bulk. I love how it has the insulation in the critical areas along with the nylon panels providing protection where you might need it (ie shoulders and chest). If you hike alot in the cooler weather, you will fall in love with it. As far as the itchiness goes, some guys feel it and some don't. I am i the latter category but my brother in law can't stand the stuff because he itches all over from it. I'll never understand "those people" :)

I couldn't agree more about the sawtooth. I love first lite gear. I bought 2 of these one in large and one in XL Both were to tight in the forearms. The hood worked well but looked ridiculous compared to a chama. Hand pockets felt small. I know a lot of guys love this piece but it was just not for me. I tried to like it but I ended up sending both sizes back. Just wanted you to know you weren't the only one not feeling it. Lol. I wish they would make a 300 ish weight full zip chama / kiln hoody in full zip with chest pocket, hand warmer pockets and a draw string at the hem. I would buy one in every color. 👍

I really wanted to love the Sawtooth as well, seems like a great idea. Not sure why it cost twice as much as the kiln? There not that much to it.
But the wierd seem up by the armpit, shoulders just totally geeked me out.
If your still in the return window it exchange it for a kiln and a wick. End up being about the same price total. Yeah the Sawtooth can take a little more weather on the front but it's not any warmer then a kiln.
I'd also like a super heavyweight hoodie. I'm definitely on the layering bandwagon. But I just love me a good hoodie.
Far as the pants go maybe try some tighter fitting undies. For me I hate low crotch pants in the wood because it feels like it's hard to step up onto things.
Obsidians +kiln = mountain pajamas 😋

Hmmm I was planning on ordering sawtooth this week now y’all making me second guess it

If you think the piece makes sense for you then order it. It kinda replaces a fleece layer, so I don’t like it as much. I’d rather have the sawtooth jacket over the Klamath. But I know a metric ton of people that love it.

The hood is funny looking but I wore mine with a long sleeve costco merino shirt underneath and was pretty comfortable hiking around mid October last year in the mid-south of BC. The lack of insulation on the back is awesome when you are hiking with a pack and I like the tight arms, I found I snagged less stuff. Did I mention the hood is pretty funny looking though?

Ok so I spoke too soon. Temps have dipped and I’ve had a chance to wear it on my pack hikes and with a long sleeve under and HOLY COW!!! What a difference actual use vs just in front of my bathroom mirror hahaha!

This has turned in a must wear, heck I want it stay cold so I have reason to wear it more!

Out of all my clothing both FL and Sitka the Sawtooth is my least favorite. It does keep you warm paired with down and/or shell, but man it fits weird and is funky along the bottom. I dont know why it was made like that....

I’m in the camp of it being one of my favorite items, I seem to not have to remove or add layers nearly as much when using it. I could careless what it looks like as long as it functions.

For me, where this jacket shines is hiking in cold temps with a pack. I don't have a piece that works better in this scenario. Kryptek had a similar piece (Borealis) that I really liked as well until some Rock Chucker ate it on a sheep hunt!

I've owned the Sawtooth for 3 seasons. I agree, it's a piece that's a bit odd but I have noticed it's with me all the time. From Sep-Nov in ID and MT. For me it just seems to work. Early season I put it on over my baselayer after hard hiking to stay warm. Late season I wear it hiking up cause it does breathe well with its mapped insulation. I hardly wear my sitka jetstream cause this seems way more versatile with a puffy jacket. Maybe it just works with my hunting style but I really like this jacket.

it’s a great piece. I love the elasticity of it. The hood is my favorite part, it wraps around a hat really well and at full zip makes a great face shield.

I think the skinny forearm thing is bullshit. I dont have popeye arms but I get to the gym. The first lite and Sitka stuff I have bought in the last year or so all have the compression forearm thing going on.

us thicc people need a little more room. besides, being skinny and weak aint no way to go through life.

My buddy got one and it was too small for him so I got it. I spent an entire season trying to figure out where it would go in my system, but I always went with my fleece instead. My daughter ended up stealing it and uses it all the time now.

I have one and it’s great casual wear: it’s perfect for bike commuting to work in November, a mid layer for snowboarding and sometimes as outerwear for skinning uphill when it’s super cold out, but, for what it is, I just find it too heavy for backcountry hunting. If it’s cold and it’s snowing, I’d prefer a light soft shell (about the same weight) to keep the piece dry. Hunting wise, it seems to only make sense for day hunts when it’s cold and dry.

For me the Sawtooth Jacket was weird in the house but just plain works in the field, particularly when carrying a pack. When I layer a rain shell over it I appreciate the snug fit in the forearms, otherwise not so much.

I got mine as a Christmas gift, didn't like it at first but couldn't send it back with it being a month after I got it. I wore it quite a bit this spring and my mind has changed, it will be a very good piece for me for deer and elk this fall.
