No license revocation or jail time will prevent them from doing it again.
So, if that’s the case, what’s your proposed punishment?

Unfortunately, the courts are bound by the laws already in the books, and they favor the poacher. Stiff prison time would have to be changed in the Legislature, but that will never happen. That’s why this keeps happening. So, if that’s the case, what’s your proposed punishment?
30 days in the local jail doesn’t deter anyone.
BomarsToo bad they don't do this to all of them (MuleyFreak, Gritty, Lampers, Grey Light, Adam Greentree, etc.etc.)
These guys got what they deserved, but what they received seems much harsher than the Studer case. Which to me was way more involved in blatant criminal activity.

That big bank account definitely helped him out. I think he ended up with only 1 count, which was the moose.Agreed, but Karl Studer is a multimillionaire so he’s got that going for him with the criminal justice system.
Studer took how many elk and a moose out of unit 54 and got no jail time and only 5 years lost hunting privileges if I remember correctly? Not that I find any less value in mule deer personally but if they are going to use the draw odds for the place to justify the punishment most of unit 54 elk tags are 2-3% and a moose tag is less than 1% odds down there so Studer should probably be serving a life sentence

Didn't Karl make a big payment too?Agreed, but Karl Studer is a multimillionaire so he’s got that going for him with the criminal justice system.

My responses have been in reference to poaching. I can’t get in the mind of a poacher, nor think like one so can’t answer that question. Maybe they should think about their job and family before poaching? Seems like a simple concept, but again, I can’t relate to a poacher. How bad is everyone's life you're thinking about that they pay no mind to a 30 day stint in jail? That would be crushing for most people with a family, a job they need, etc.

I’m far from perfect, but can say poaching has never crossed my mind in 50+ years in the field.
Though the straight and narrow may seem dull, it will keep you out of trouble.
We would hope, but these cases seem to continue.Well when folks look at consequences like a couple thousand $ fines and some community services I can see how not all are deterred. If they expected instead a month in the clink and lifetime ban that would probably dissuade more.
Even after this story, bet we read about more poaching cases in the future.

In this example, their jail time will be reduced to probation….just watch.

That seems to be how it worked out...Punishable for a fine= legal for a price.
Cheaper than governors tags
