Finally, some jail time.

Nice! Some with lifetime hunting bans and some up to 15 years. None of these guys will legally be able to hunt anywhere in the states forever or for a very long time.

Crazy that they were able to use their phone data to get em.I know that’s common but it still surprises me that all that stored

Rarely see jail time. Nice!

Issuing lifetime bans are worthless with poachers. They didn’t follow the law then and they won’t follow it going forward. Always find it laughable when poachers get license revocations, as if that’s really going to change their ways.
I’ll take it a step further and say that a “lifetime ban” like at least a couple of these guys got is probably actually counter productive. It virtually eliminates any chance of them ever changing their ways and going to do it the right way. I’m not at all condoning their actions, but as someone who loves to hunt….I’m going to hunt.

In the case of a lifetime hunting ban, there is now nothing ever encouraging them to do things the right way whatsoever. Need a little meat for the freezer? Guess they’ll go shoot a couple does right about March or April just as fawns get closer to dropping. See a nice buck down the road? Guess he’ll get whacked around August or so, long before anyone else gets much of a chance at him. Not to mention the fact that now suddenly they’re probably going to hunt (possibly in excess) while not paying anything at all towards licenses and permits.

One can make the argument that these guys probably didn’t care too much about the rules in the first place and I’d probably agree. Something tells me that they definitely won’t now, though.

I disagree. It’s never going to be legal for them to hunt in the covered jurisdictions. Any situation in which they are caught hunting is another easy conviction. And, assuming part of the jail time is suspended, or they get early release, it makes for an easy reinstatement of the suspended sentence or revocation of parole/early release. With an easy conviction on the next charge with aggravating circumstances for the next sentence.

It’s not about “changing their ways.” This is the equivalent of “felon in possession of a firearm” in terms of future potential prosecutions.

This^^^. If any of them get caught in the future or while suspended (likely), just gets worse and worse for them.

I don’t disagree with their punishment, but you have created lifetime poachers!

They won’t buy any license at all moving forward, and if they weren’t communicating with one another they wouldn’t have all gotten caught.

So now they will poach solo and slip through the cracks!

Your first paragraph is about "changing their ways"...

The sentences handed down make me wonder if the judge who decided on the penalty is a hunter.

So often, the light punishments associated with poaching make me think that other than us hunters or the wildlife enforcement agencies, the judge, DA, and juries have no perspective on just how egregious poaching is.

Maybe if big bubba has his way with them in prison the first time around, the fear of getting the shaft will keep them from further poaching.
Wonder if there’s a way we could put some money on his books for a job well done🙂

As felons now they can’t even carry a gun so if they get stopped and checked for any reason they are done for. At least now they can’t make it look like they’re legally hunting under any circumstances. Hopefully people in that area will keep an eye out for them in the field. If they have probation I think it’s legal for law enforcement to check in on them, watch their cell data, etc

Crazy how many big poaching cases have come up in Idaho the last couple years. Either we’re the poaching capitol of the West or our F&G are really good …

I think F&G is starting to see a pattern with influencers and now trying to get ahead of it, or let folks know if you come to ID, F&G plays thr FAFO game too here. And to quit abusing our state, no matter if you're a IG douche canoe or a group of buddies that probably all shot from their trucks because they're to fat to walk.

It’s a total disregard of laws.

It’s the thrill of the chase of doing what they want. No license revocation or jail time will prevent them from doing it again. It’s why they did it in the past and prone to repeat it at a later date.
