I have a 1st season rifle tag for Telluride area elk hunt. I’m and considering buying a lite outdoors titanium stove but not sure I’ll need it if weather is average?... I’ve also considered buying a new pair of binoculars. I’m currently gonna take a pair of diamback 8x42 but looking at the Maven C’ in 10x or 12x. Which should I choose? Or should I just get both?

I don't think you would need a stove for first season.

You can never go wrong with upgrading glass. I would use what you have this year, save, and get some even better glass for next year.

I’ve upgraded alot of gear and spent about $2-3k this year. Budget is not unlimited but it’s there. I don’t know if I’ll ever justify $1000+ binos. But I might find out this year I want fancy glass and buy em next year. Not afraid to spend $400 on glass just to have for this year. Not sure if the 8x are enough. The spotting scope is staying in the truck to save weight. Wasn’t really sure if a stove was necessary.

FYI, last year we had a significant amount of snow and temperatures as low as -13 degrees during 1st season. Yes, that is very unusual, but it can happen. Some years it is 75, dry, and sunny. In a perfect world, I would have setups for both a comfortable base camp and a spike camp. Rifle season in Colorado is all about playing the weather/terrain IMO. At least where I hunt.

We killed stuff growing up with $50 bushnell bino's. I do enjoy higher priced bino's though. They provide much better eye relief and edge to edge clarity. To answer your question, I would have to know more about where you are hunting. If you are hunting in thick timber then get the stove. If you are hunting in very glassable terrain then get the binos. Good luck on your hunt!

I think Im gonna go for the stove this year and save my pennies for expensive glass next year. I cant do the $1800 Swaro’s this year or my wife will cut my pecker off. Maybe next year.

A leupold gold ring 12-40x 60mm spotter can be found used for around $600 great starter spotter and light weight.

Use what you have until your ready for alpha euro glass. The difference in $200 binos and 4-500 isn’t much. I made that mistake. Just use the DB and save for a used pair of Swaro, zeiss, or Leica.
