Feral horses

Why you wanna go and shoot a horse? You French or sumpin’? I guess you could make a ton of meatloaf...

we have the same problem here in Australia in the Alpine regions. Apparently because of the 'Man from Snowy River' they are part of our 'Culture'. meanwhile they destroy fragile alpine environments with their wallows and $hit piles.

That's how it is here. People squealing about the environment and non native species - except for feral horses, donkeys and burros. They love horses, but hate hogs. Makes perfect sense!

When I become president I'll rename "wild" to "feral" in all Federal references to non domesticated horses in the US.

I had an Alberta outfitter that wanted me to shoot a feral cow once. I ran into it but couldn't pull the trigger. I didn't want to screw up my hunt, the cow never did anything to me and I couldn't see how a cow could possibly be a danger to anything important. It would have been really good eating though.

The Navajo nation was selling permits a few years ago. When the hunt started getting close all the protestors and such got them to shut it down. I was really hoping to get a chance to do it.

Where I live somebody shot a handful of them this winter. I assume someone local because tourists are the only people who like them.

Using feral or wild usually tells you all you need to know about a person.
Feral horses are putting a strain on the western ranges that will be felt for decades even if all of them were removed tomorrow.

Feral horses are absolutely destroying huge tracks of land up at the corner of Northern California Oregon and Nevada.

The SCIENCE would indicate they are way over populated.

It'll never happen because they're Congressionally protected...not saying I agree with it just that it would literally require and act of Congress to change and we can't even get them to agree on basic human rights

I got nothin against shooting horses....but man that was a great movie. One of my all time favorites!

There are horses in the park up here. A week or so ago there was a protest because they rounded up 5 of the horses and were auctioning them off. Not one of the posters that I saw was going to step up and buy one at the auction. They just wanted the park to keep them all. Just to many animals with the horses, bison, elk, deer, etc.

I just can't understand the mindset. They would rather there are too many animals and they destroy the habitat before keeping the herd at carrying capacity.

And its not even a wild animal. The logic is so far out of this world it amazes me.

Buy one at the auction for 100 bucks, then take it home and shoot it. I guess once you own it , you can do what you want with it i assume. Long as nobody knew that would report as cruelty to critters.

Through culture and education, many people now think that when animals die due to disease, starvation, or predation from another animal, that is just nature. But if a human harms an animal in any way that is cruelty. They implicitly think we are separate from nature.

You can’t buy them and then kill them. They have rules against sending them to slaughter. That’s why we have all the holding facilities.
They would make great dog food, and feed for zoo animals, as well as human food.
Horse is actually very good. Though I’d expect a ferrel one to be less so than domestic. But I’d imagine most folks eating fast food wouldn’t notice the difference in a burger patty.
Funny, all the talk of world hunger and food banks short on quality protein, yet we have all this meat wandering around destroying habitat that we pay to keep alive.
