I just picked up a new Tikka T3X chambered in .270 Win. Will be shooting hand loads. Primarily for whitetails anywhere from 50-300 yards being the typical range. Also plan on going out west with it in the future for some mule deer hunts (hopefully). I currently have some 140gr Sierra TGK’s, but am wondering what other bullets others have had good success with or enjoy?

Thanks in advance!

There was another thread on this recently you should look up. Consensus seems to be that anything coming out of a .270 will kill deer well at those distances. Maybe give monos a try. Barnes is well established, hammer more the boutique option. DRT for the maximum wound channel crowd.

Must’ve missed it. I’ll give it a look. Appreciate the info

I pulled my 270 barrel but still have it sitting on the shelf if I ever decide to spin it back on. Before I pulled it I shot a few deer with the 130 TTSX, great accuracy but less than stellar terminal performance IMO.

If i spin it on again I will probably load up the 140 classic hunter from Berger or the good ole 140 BTSP Hornady.

Was also considering the 140 Hornady’s myself.

Its crazy how opinions very on bullets.
My wife has shot a hot load of h4831sc with the 130ttsx and it was 3/4moa 5 shots and has killed everything really well. She has a lot of deer, elk and a mature bull moose that never took a step.

On the other hand that load made us try the 95lrx in the 6 cm and it was the slowest killing combo I have ever shot into a critter after 2 antilope and a mature mule deer I switched.

Been using Hornady interlock 130's forever. Never been given a reason to change.

For 150gr's I have the Woodleigh PP. Haven't shot anything with them yet though. Just changed from the old school Speer grand slam 150's which aren't made the same anymore.

You already have an ideal bullet. I have used the 140 Gamechanger in my .270 for years. Antelope and mule deer have been very impressed with it's performance. It's sleek, expands well and retains good weight to penetrate. And it's affordable. I will never shoot anything else.

When I shot 270 win about 15 years ago I had nosler ballistic tip and accubonds loaded up in 130gr. They both shot same POI with the same powder and charge. Back then I thought it gave me the option to hunt deer and elk without changing things up other than the projectile. Now, I would likely opt for the ballistic tip for both if I still ran that setup. If I didn't want to run nosler projectiles I would look into berger hybrid or classic hunter.

Definitely gonna give them a try first. Just looking for some other options to see which gives me the best groups/terminal performance.
