Facing our biases

I need to get over my bias for more velocity than I need. All my rifles should be 18" or even 16" but I can't get myself to go below 20". I don't need to shoot 800+ yards at animals.

Whats a bias you have that you can't get over?
I have the same bias. I'm always over gunned. My last gun I had put together is a 22" 7PRC.

Requirement of 26-42 mm objectives for my hunting scopes. I might benefit with a 50 mm. But cant get past my bias for smaller objectives. I even bought a scope back in 2008 with a 50. Traded it for a 40 two years later without ever hunting with it.

Lightweight rifles, I haven’t given in yet but I see the ULUL builds on here and I really want one, but I also have a bunch of 75 ELDs I need to use which is another bias cause 73s would work but I want the higher bc

I need to get over an aversion to detachable magazines. Every online shooting challenge seems to show multiple failures to feed every single episode. I mean, holy smokes who would hunt with any of those tricked out rifles if they can’t get a simple cartridge to feed at the range. Feeding old school long tapered cartridges like greased bananas from internal magazines with time between issues measured in years or decades obviously works, but there surely must be reliable detachable mag systems and it will fun to learn about them. I wake up, grab a tooth brush while repeating in my head, “It will be fun to learn about them.” Kinda easing into the idea. Besides it gives more street cred with grandkids if Old Pops can smoke more targets before having to reload.

With age I’m giving up other preconceived ideas that are forced on us by marketing, like the traditional 22” or 24” barrel. Just like you fellas want a shorter barrel than what big corporate wants to sell over the counter, I’m really enjoying a few 28” barrels. Shoot, every new barrel might turn into a 28” with #4 contour. If I ever get hooked on cans it would be ironic to cut down all my extra long barrels. lol

.
That I always HAVE to tinker for “improvement”
This turned me off to reloading. Constantly trying to shoot dime sized groups and just wasting time and money.

That is another one I have slowly gotten over and I'm comfortable with larger groups so I may try reloading again. Still have most the gear.

Same. I know it would take me down a rabbit hole I don’t have the time for. Archery though, I can’t stop.

Facts! The 6cm I just got assembled I’m kicking myself for going with a 20” tube. It felt wrong losing more velocity, but in reality I’m not going to shoot over 500 yards at game, so why am I chasing velocity for 700 yards… it’s stupid on my part

Shooting off a bipod. I know from my own testing it’s not as accurate or precise as shooting from my pack…but I keep doing it
True story for me too. Most of my kills are off a bipod, with my pack next to me that would work just as well, if not better.

Even tho less stable, I do find value in the taller ones when antelope hunting - when sitting, I used my pack as the rear brace. Yes, I know other methods probably work better, but it's what I use a lot of the time when the grass is tall and the terrain is flat.

Bipods are a comfort crutch for me that is hard to be willing to leave.
