New member. I believe(if the deal goes well) I am putting together my 1st Kifaru pack. I posted asking opinions of the DT3. Seemed that it's neither Fish nor Fowl and is semi unpopular. But just like my teenaged boys....I couldn't listen and take advice. It is THE pack that I have been wanting since the regular T3s hit the market. Been chasing one a while. I work outdoors. BackCountry snowmobile, snowshoe, SAR and help teach Land Nav/Survival type classes. I feel I could use this pack EVERYDAY, not just 1-3 hunts a year. I mentioned that I am only a bear/deer hunter and do not high country hunt for extended trips. 4 days or less.

With Aron getting onboard with Kifaru it seems there is a new pack, trinquet, or something about every month. And quickly what was once the "rage" is Old Hat in a year. Not that the older stuff is junk, just everyone has to have the "current" neaty-cooly.

I do recall seeing a video of the meat shelf? but cannot find it. Took me a good while to find the shelf kit on the Kifaru page. From what I recall of the video, the shelf is hooked on to the bottom of the frame and creates a 6" wide shelf of sorts, to prevent a meat baggie from slipping out.

This is pretty much how I envision what I am trying to do or accomplish. I already have the tube style Meat Baggie. I do NOT see my hunts as a 1 trip out type of endeavor. I would guess from all of Aron's pics, he and others only make one exit.

I would guess I could do this with a medium sized deer. Pealing the cape and taking only skull cap would be that much easier. But I am aware a full bear hide is a pretty bulky load with skull attached. I've done it before. Eberlestock not happy, hence the upgrade.

So I am asking opinion of What's the most Bang for the Buck in outfitting a BT3 system? Can a Grab-It replace all the functions of the meat shelf, yet add more universal function?

If you were required to make a 2nd trip, what would you strip off the frame and what would you attach?

I sold one to Crumys buddy, and I know they used it to haul an elk out this last fall. Hopefully, he'll chime in.

I hauled part of an elk with mine this year. I just put all the meat inside the bag. Worked just fine that way.

I packed out two bulls from the backcountry in '13 with my late season using the grab it. Worked very well. Probably should have put the quarters inside the bag but I had all of my camping items in the bag already. I wouldn't let anyone talk you out of the DT3. It is an awesome bag!

I would just spend the $117.00 and get the cargo hauler. I used it in Alaska this year on moose quarters and it works like a charm. Best advice is to get four to six extra attachment clips and you can really cinch a load down to the Duplex frame. Bob.

I had the dt3 and eventually replaced it with a dt2. I wanted a bigger main compartment bag for longer trips and so that I wouldn't have to cut elk hind quarters into so many pieces in order to fit inside.

That being said, the DT3 will hold all the meat that you can probably carry unless you are superhuman. The DT3 will easily fit 110-120 pounds of meat.

I think the cargo panel is overkill. The grab it will do anything you need and is much cheaper. I never really understood the purpose of a meat shelf. Put the meat in the main bag. It will be stable, close to your back, and you can strap it down tight.

I think you will really like the DT3 bag.

I have a nearly unused DT3 BAG ONLY that I'll make you a good deal on. I have a DT1, as well, and just never take it off the frame. I tend to hunt really far from the road and, when hiking, end up with at least one person who isn't a hiker so I carry gob of extra stuff and need the bigger bag. That being said, the DT3 is great for the right application. The bag is in multicam.

I was in your shoes in December trying to decide on my first Kifaru Pack System...so many great options and how to choose. I also had Eberlestock Blue Widow but after last season I realized the pack is dangerous to try and haul heavy loads 100+ and I want to be rocking the mountains 40 years from now.
I understand your rational and think you are on track. But the Bikini has some strong point and weaknesses. With the skeleton frame I don't see the meat shelf working that great but if you plan on hauling out 2-3 loads your pack weight should be less than 90lbs and that is where the Bikini excels. Bone your meat out into BOMB bags then load into BT3 keep the load close to your back. If you have extra stuff lash it with the lid and grab it.

I ordered the Bikini in the UL Black Material, T2, grab-it and a couple of small hip pockets. When I received realized the Bikini just wasn't for me it was too far on the Ultra Light side also didn't realize the belt was different than duplex and didn't like how the hip pockets only had two attachment points. I spoke with Aron and exchanged for the Duplex. I would highly recommend calling Aron next.

I hate to bother the guy. Seems everyone wants a piece of him. He's done 40+ videos(meaning he's tried to cover it already). I've watched all the Duplex vs Bikini stuff I can find. This is still the hardest gear selection choice I've ever made. I need to order and be done w it. Now I have more indecision

Having said that......never guessed there was a difference in the belts?

I am at a School right now and noticed a student with a T2 that think is a BT2. I'll have to grab him if we ever get a break. I noticed it real quick as we were breaking down after an exercise. Spoke maybe 1 minute. I didnt see a huge size difference that made me saw "Wow, I F'd up and bought the dinky one"
