Any great places for rarer, special wood in Montana or the nearby states?

Looking for pretty highly figured walnut or maple, bolivian rosewood, or other cool exotics.

Would be open to other rosewoods that are similar to the bolivian and walnut in color.

I travel all over MT and the nearby states frequently. Going to TX soon, etc.

Shipping is an option, as long as it's not ridiculous. I need 30-45 board feet.

Thanks!

It would help to know what you are using it for- a table or gun stock....all would be different criteria.

So many small time guys selling various slabs and such. ETSY has some....heck, even Craigslist.

But if you are making a walnut stock for a rifle, best to use a bigger outfit that has cured it properly.

Most major cities have a specialized hardwoods seller of some sort. What part of Montana are you in?

Be prepared to gag when you see the cost of that milled hardwood lumber. I literally laugh out loud when I hear the talking heads in the MSM claim 2-3% inflation.....while I have seen material costs double and triple.

Some of the hardwoods like Ipe we were buying 4 years ago have more than tripled. Lumber overall has gone up huge....have you bought any pre primed trim lately? It's doubled during the Biden admin.

I know how it is when I have my mind set on something....but if your material cost is getting out of control, take a look at one of the hardwood plywoods- oak, cherry, etc. Those have doubled in cost too...but it's very cost efficient to work with and looks great when finished.

I’m in BC so part of Montana touches me. Most mornings the wood is pretty high grade.
