Long story short, a service that we
used to use for website analytics was compromised. No personal or payment data was at risk or transferred in any way. The timing of this was coincidental to The Experience Challenge registration, not something that happened because of the registration. Thankfully, we were made aware of the issue, quickly identified the cause, were able to verify the risk (none, besides that odd message/page some of you saw), and got it resolved/removed.
We charged shipping for the shirts that we're sending out. The shipping costs for some locations were not configured properly and did over-charge from what our actual shipping costs will be.
Nothing we are doing with The Experience Challenge is to make money off of entry fees. Every dollar coming in will be "going back out" to the participants in one way or another — whether for the grand prize of the hunts, additional gear giveaways, and some other things yet to be announced. In fact, for those of you who did register for the sheep hunt, look for an email soon about that.
