I have a euro bull elk mount that lives outside in my entryway corridor. It doesn't see any direct sun but gets wet from rain and snow throughout the year.
I recently noticed it is starting to discolor to a pink/ red hue in some areas of the skull. I can only assume it is some sort of bacteria that is starting to grow. I took it down, tried pressure washing and scrubbing with a brillow pad. It did not help. I left it out in the sun to let the skull dry out and it seems like the sun exposure did help some areas.
Has anyone experienced something similar? What is the best course of action to clean affected area? I'm not opposed to re-bleaching the entire skull, but exploring all options first.
