EMR II takes a canoe ride

Great pics Stid as said before very jealous!

I bent the hooks on my EMR 2 horizontal compression straps right out of the box per Aron's suggestion works great but yes seeing them would be lighter I am sure.

Got to do something about the hooks that hold the compression straps to the frame, they fall off when I loosen the straps. Other than that I'm very pleased.

As Nick said above, you have to squeeze the hook just enough to keep them from quickly popping off. I have G-hooks on a piece of HPG gear and that was the only thing that worked well. For another project I made rubber bands from bicycle tire tubes and that may work well for securing G-hooks.

Great photos Stid, looks like you guys had a great time. Once you guys are on the main part of the Yukon is the current strong enough to move you along or do you have to paddle to get anywhere?

The current on the Yukon is about 6 to 8 mph, so you can paddle or just kick back and enjoy the ride. As long as the wind behaves of course, the Yukon can get ugly in a storm.

My reading skills expose my edgamacation. Lol . At 10 to 20 miles it goes from hairy to down right dangerous. The last multi day canoe trip I was on was in northern Ontario in a dry year. The waterways were low and plugged with beaver dams, spent more time with a canoe on my shoulders than in the water.
When you fly into a head waters like that and land on a gravel bar how many trips does it take to get 2 guys and their gear in?

Helio can fly about 750lbs in one flight, we only needed one flight since my friend lives up there full time and had lined the canoe to his cabin up from the Yukon.

great pictures. another trip im truly envious of.

as for the hooks, i cut mine off and replaced them HEAVY DUTY zipties. added 3 spare ties to my possibles pouch. net a couple oz weight savings.

Like the layout better than any pack I've tried so far. Got to do something about the hooks that hold the compression straps to the frame, they fall off when I loosen the straps. Other than that I'm very pleased.

I cut mine off, sewed a loop at end of webbing and tied in some 550 cord. Cuts a little weight too.

Looks like you and Bushrat had a great trip! Thanks for taking us along, would love to do a trip like that at some point!

Great pics. How far did you travel down the side drainage to get to the Yukon and how far did you paddle on the Yukon? Was that a Royalex canoe you were running with?

Looks like an awesome trip and glad you had a great trip. That pic of the river looks like a lot of paddling was needed. :)

Sorry but I can't say, would be easy to see where his place is.

The canoe is a plain old 14ft Coleman plastic canoe. The Aluminum ones stick to rocks and sand too bad and fiberglass gets busted from rock impacts. Plastic slides better than any other choice and the smaller profile is easier to line.

I have the exact same issue with mine. Drives me crazy too. Maybe a little duct tape....
