Elk Shot Placement - Which Shots Would You Take?

I won't take a Texas heart shot or intentionally gut shoot an animal. Bedded, frontal, quarting away, points of the shoulders (when they need to drop where they're at), back of the head, spine, and my absolute favorite broadside through the lungs, are all shots that I've taken and have had success with.

For those of you who have taken neck shots, Where do you aim? How have the results been?

They're effective if you hit the spine. You're better off trying that shot after you've skinned a few and get a sense of how much the hair stands up if you're talking about from a broadside profile. I like it as my alternative to the Texas heart shot. Heading straight away, line your vertical crosshair up with the dark line of hair going up their back and squeeze the trigger.
