Agreed as stated above....don't need as quality optics to hunt Alaska....

It wasn't until after I posted that I read a bunch of posts after the one I read/responded to that most everyone already covered that point. They don't call me "master of the obvious" for nothing.

We hear allot of people using the Vortex warranty…. maybe because there is so much product out there?
I wonder if the % of product manufactured to warranty is similar to Swaro ratio of manufactured to warranty.

I mean we hear less about Swaro problems because not everyone can afford Swaro…….

I have a JOC tribute Model 70 270 that is accurate and beautiful. I do take it hunting. However, I don't drag it over the shale or use it to bust through the brush. I think that the same thing happens with Vortex. WE know how Vortex honors its warranty. You spend almost three thousand hard-earned American dollars on a pair of EL SVs and you bet that you are going be more protective of the ELs.
However, I have hunted with folks that leave their Viper HDs outside of the tent while I would never do that with my Zeiss Victory FLs or my Pocket 10X25b.

Again this is just my view but I think that its hard to think that Vortex makes a product that needs to be serviced. They just really want to push that customer service model. I think that their product initial quality is high. I do wonder about the durability of crossfires and diamondbacks but I don't have enough experience with either.

I also think guys are less likely to come on and say their 2500 pair of binos has a defect or problem. Also vortex goes to the extreme with their warranty when they came on to try and get a foothold in the market swaro does not need to do that.
Vortex also makes a ton of cheaper optics lines, cheaper optics means cheaper parts which means less quality.

Almost everyone I know who owns a Vortex product, has had to use the warranty.

On the flip side, my buddies and I have used Swaro for years, and I've never known a person to need their warranty.

For manufacturing defects or self inflicted issues?

Rangefinders not ranging right. Scopes not dialing right. So manufacturer defects.

One case, a buddy also got sand where the eyepieces go into his binos. Self inflicted / bad design.

No comparison imo between the quality of Swarovski vs Vortex. Hard to justify the price though, for most people.

I like to hash things out and debate as much as the next guy but this comparison is apples to oranges ....

Two of the three swaro binos I have owned had to be sent in for warranty issues.....so now you can say you know someone that has had to use Swaro warranty not only once but twice. ;)

You're my first Luke! No one can take that away from us. :p

Also for the record, I'm not saying the Vortex doesn't make dang good products, because I think they do.

HAHA.....well played!

Vortex does make good stuff, but not Swaro stuff either and pricing reflects that.

I wouldn't personally use lower end Vortex stuff but its cool they offer it. But I agree comparing $1200 binos to $1800 or $2300 binos is hardly apples to apples like Trial mentioned above.

Just glad my eyes can't see the huge difference, but there is a difference yes when I got to look through Ryan's 10X42 SLC HDs....... ;)

fact is business is business…. if I had to warranty every single piece that left my plant (sand cast foundry…and ... machine shop) …
I would have gone under a long time ago. Even if I marked up my products a ridiculous amount.

so something's not right here… the company that is Vortex seems to be thriving…. Every piece out the door can't be a dud?

You will find very few hunting quides/outfitters that don't have Zeiss, Leica or Swaros....you will never be sorry with either one of these three. Period

How old is to old to dig up an old thread?

I currently have a pair of 10x42 el's that are from 2005 with the faster focus knob. I am wondering how these would stack up against the brand new Razor hd? I have been wondering for a while if the Razors with 2018 technology are better than the 13 year old el's because I think I can sell them for enough to get brand new Razors.

I will give you $600 for your EL’s! I say sell them to me and regret buying the razors after I own your binos 😜. Don’t do it.

It’s not the technology it’s the quality of the execution of the technology. I’d happily trade you some new Razors for your old EL’s. Keep your EL’s and if they’re a little worn send them to Swarovski for a service.

So I've been doing some serious thinking about ordering new binos, my question is. Those who have compared Swaro El 10x50 side by side to Vortex Razor HD 10x50 what is your opinion on the difference? I've talked with a few people that say the only difference they have noticed is that the Swaro's are crisper all the way to the edge in the field of view, but they all say the price difference doesn't match the glass difference. Thanks for any insight on the glass

Earlier this year I bought a set of Razor HD's, the newest 12x50 China made model for $1200, and a pair of Swaro 8x42 slc's for $1300. Both were brand spankin new. There is simply no comparison here. The slc's are clearer, crisper, the colors and images pop like no other glass I have ever used before. The depth of field is by far superior with the slc. Every time I look thru em, the thought comes to mind... where have you been all my life. In spite of the difference in magnification, the slc's are so good that I don't need the 12's so I sold em. I did however pick up a Kowa Prominar scope for long range stuff, way better scope than the razor I sold this yr.
