Got an Elk in Idaho with a yellow on a trail cam. It’s on public land far from elk ranches. Also herded up with other elk that don’t have one. Did have some funky bulls with him. ID PUBLIC LAND.

Idaho and Washington will give you another tag if it’s within the time of being unsafe to eat. I’m sure other states do as well.

The only cases I've heard of around town are when they are tangled up in clothes lines etc. That being said, that's almost always bucks that do stuff like that and I regularly see tagged does, too.
