I’m jealous. Hunted out that way a few years ago. Met some old timers from Dubois that were cool guys. They were kind enough to help me out when I was in a pinch. Wish I could convince the wife to move up there

Will be spending a day poking around and one night there in June on our little tour of southwest wyoming. I've heard alot of good things about Duboise...none related to MJ🤦‍♂️🤣...
I dont think Duboise is in the cards but we will be Eyeing Pinedale and Lander areas pretty hard for potential relocation spots.
Either way I'm stoked to see the area even as just as pass through.
Best of luck with your move!
You better come from money if you plan to live in Pinedale, aka Lil Jackson Hole. Between oil money and people displaced from Jackson Hole, prices are not small town Wyoming. Lander is a little better priced since it is over South Pass and on the edge of the reservation. The whole Pinedale/Boulder/Sand Draw/Big Piney/Marbleton/Daniel's Junction loop has been over taken by the folks chasing the Yellowstone lifestyle and the vacation ski home life. Definitely not the same as it was 20 years ago when I first came to the area.

Alot of places on our list of possibles we are still exploring...takes alot of money to find a decent home anywhere remotely desirable these days Nice but by no means extravagant Houses on a couple to a few acres in our no place special rural midwest community are not far from things in those areas you mentioned price wise. Housing is brutal everywhere worth being especially if you don't have solid equity in something else to sell first.
One downfall to capitalism, everything is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it...and whether you like it or not that sets the price for the rest of us.
I think the remote locations and lack of services will save alot of places you mentioned for awhile yet, but no place is immune to growth. Nothing typed on this or any other forum is going to change that.

It cracks me up the people whining about "spot" burning when it comes to relocating. I'm sorry but if you live in a small mountain town and the population is growing, it's likely not the kind of people you want moving there. They don't have the same values as you and don't care about the same things you care about. I would think some guy on a hunting/gear forum is exactly who'd you want moving to your area vs who is actually moving there.

I don't think a lot of people are browsing Rokslide, seeing a post and then telling their wife and kids to load up, found a great spot, uprooting everything and moving next week to get resident status in the draw :ROFLMAO:

I get the protective attitude to a degree...but also see alot of truth is this perspective. Its the age of information, and what's shared on this forum is such a tiny fraction of what's out there. I'd think a community of relatively like minded, outdoor oriented folks would be the place for this type of conversation...apparently not.
I mean OP is getting flack for talking about making a move in the same state he's already a resident in a short distance move at that...then a few folks mention a couple places around there to visit if your in the area or that they think are cool around there and suddenly someone spilled the beans on the hot spot to be and every yuppie with a sprinter camper van is gonna flood the town...If the Yuppies are coming, it's not from reading anything here🤷‍♂️
