Drop camp southern Colorado recommendations

I've been looking for drop camps in CO as well. Came across a website called Outfitter Intel that had some helpful search filters including the ability to search specifically for drop camps instead of fully guided.

Scrolled through the outfitter intel website. It’s missing a bunch of outfitters that I know operate just in our area. Not what I would consider a good recommendation really. Most of the outfitters that I know that are reputable local to me aren’t listed. There’s a few on there that I wouldn’t trust to pack my sleeping bag in.

Sounds like the guy that started outfitter intel is relatively new so it seems he’s adding as he can, I just got an email from him today to check my listing

Hey Tobe_B - would you mind sharing me the names of any of these outfitters? Would be happy to add them to the site.

I was searching for a guide or drop camp for a trip to book for my dads 60th birthday in CO. Became overwhelmed with the amount of info scattered across the web. So my buddy and I are creating a single source to be a useful reference for folks. Doing my best to track down everyone I can, but other than https://coloradooutfitters.org/ there isn't a great repository for this stuff.

But thank you for taking the time to take a spin through the site. If you have any other comments or suggestions feel free to shoot me a message would be happy to take a spin

Do these drop camp outfitters drop you in designated areas or can you tell them exactly where you want dropped off(assuming horses can make it)

Typically a drop camp is the outfitters camp it’s set in a specified location, most outfitters cannot move their camps to where you want.

If you want the “spike camp or gear packing option” that would be your gear and camp into your spot. Although most outfitters don’t really like doing these as much or have stipulations as to where you can go, when and relative to their other camps.

Most outfitters offer pack service, depending upon availability of horses. Most packers I know pretty busy that time of year, but there is always some knucklehead on horseback willing to take an extra trip on any given day. I used to be that guy and some days it sucked!

I will be in 77 first rifle this year with another buddy who has a tag. First time in southern CO. We are/were looking for a meat-only packout outfitter. The below link has links for Columbine/Dolores/Pagosa District permitted outfitters. I actually spoke to Pagosa District today and they said they should have their outfitter corridor map up shortly, but Columbine district already has theirs posted (link below as well) and it shows the western 1/3 of 77 in it. If you go to the 'guide permittee' links, it lists out who is licensed for each district and which compartment they are allowed to operate in. So if you know where you want to hunt, check out that compartment and cross-reference the outfitters there.

I will tell you that most of the people we contacted who do drop camps and guided hunts don't want to haul meat only for DIY guys. We have a couple last emails to send or cells to call, but we are planning to haul out our own at the moment unless we get a good feeler from someone.
