Driving with a Chest Freezer

My brother and I just kept two pronghorn cool (almost frozen) and dry for five days and from New Mexico to Texas by simply by draining ice water, adding CUBE ice as necessary, and keeping the coolers in the shade. For 36 hours you could probably do nothing but tape it shut and be fine, but adding the extra steps (block ice, blanket, etc.) is nice insurance. I wouldn't stress about it.

just get a small inverter and run it when the truck is on. A freezer does not draw much anymore and you'll be surprised how little it will actually run if you have frozen jugs in there.

Made it safely to Texas, despite time spent risking our lives in 35. Ran the cooler during an overnight in Iowa then kept it taped and covered from 7am Wednesday to 4pm Thursday and no issues were had! Thanks for everyone's advice!

I have carried a freezer in the bed of my truck filled with frozen salmon & bottom fish. I was traveling for 24 hrs... everything was still frozen solid when I got home.
