Dream elk rifle setup with $4k budget

Sako s20 precision 6.5 creed $1k
Cut and thread at 18" $125
Cgs hyperion $1300 with stamp & tax
Nf ultralight rings $160
1700 left for scope and ammo
Maven rs 1.2 $1200
Nf shv f1 $1100
Nf nxs 2.5-10 $1400
Swfa 5-20 $800
Trijicon tenmile 3-18 $1100

Spend the rest on a single lot of Hornady precision hunter 143 eldx or match 140 eld.

Fify and saved him $1500 on a rifle that will shoot just as well.

The problem with the Roughtech, Veil, or D18 versions of the Tikka is the barrel length. They are all too long and the fluting extends well past where they should be cut to.

I'd trim that budget up a bit on the fluffy stuff and buy lots of ammo to burn. Dead critters come from icy veins and well guided bullets. Field practice is priceless.

It's pretty well known here that anything from 223 through the chey-tac will dump an elk. We have done it with every stock and glass sold....but the guys who are killers shoot a lot.

You are at $4k with that setup?
I am a scrounger when it comes to assembling what I want. Probably lost more on reselling the stuff I did not like, lol.

Bought used, TBeast discount cert, and on sale. $750 Nuke, $600 barrel, $1350 scope, $125 trigger, $350 stock, $100 M5 bm, $85 mag, $850 ultra 7, $75 rings, level $40

Well. Looks like it’s all a little more than $4k, but certainly less without the suppressor.

I like the Tikka suggestions.

How I'd roll:

Kimber Montana in 6.5CM, 7-08, 308, 270, 30-06, 280ai
Cut and thread barrel to 18"
Suppressor of choice (something lightish and shortish)
Talley 30mm Lwts
Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42
Butler Creek Mountain Sing

All that will equal a sub 7.5 all-up (scoped, with sling and rounds) elk killing machine.

I know Rokslide loves their Tikkas and I do too if starting from scratch. but do you or any family/friends have any old bolt action you can breathe some life into? You can rebarrel and restock pretty much any action and end up with a great rifle.

I had roughly the same budget and was going to go the Tikka route then realized I had a "sears model 53" just a rebranded push feed model 70 sitting in the safe not being used and built off that

It cost roughly $1400 bucks for pretty much a completely custom rifle built to my exact specs

Tikka stainless in your chambering of choice, maybe a Rokstock, Maven 1.2 package, spend the rest on ammo and shoot it a lot. Either that or UM rings and see what SWFA comes out with in the next month or so.

Something along those lines is the most efficient route, I think.

I'd go with the custom 338.06 LH that's for sale in the classifieds here topped with a Steiner 2.5-15x50 t6xi that I already got from the classifieds here and no need for a can in my case. Otherwise the savage 110 action I have with a shaw barrel chambered in 35 whelen dropped in a McMillan game warden or a Boyd's agility stock with the pillars and adjustable cheak rest still no can. Either or would be fine by me I'd like to have both personally lol

AG composites makes the best tikka stock on the market if you can find one. Add in a c6 prefit 20” barrel and you have a semi custom rifle that will compete with any custom rifles out there.

If I were trying to keep it simple I'd find a 6.5prc Tikka and cut it at 20". Face mount for a 5/8x24 or straight thread it at 1/2x28 if it's a d18 profile. Id look for a nomad LT or dominus. Something titanium and fat would be my preference. Use the factory stock or drop it into one you like.

I'm not a huge fan of most FFP reticles so a trijicon credo or similar with exposed elevation and capped windage would suffice. Ideally windage hash marks only with no tree or a single elevation hash would be great. Any mag in the range of 2 or 3 to 12 or 15 with a 40-44 objective.
