Looking to save as much weight as possible on a haul road 5 mile walk in caribou hunt. Planned on taking a glassing tarp and also a field dressing tarp. Anybody have one solution that would work for both so I could just carry/use one tarp for both?

I use a disposable mylar blanket for field dressing. They are just over an oz.

Not what you asked but it also serves double duty for saftey and survival.

No it will not unravel simply hang dry- folded a 8x8 will fit in a 1 quart zip lock put some gorilla tape squares on both sides at the corners and in the middle to poke holes thru for tiedowns
I’ll give it a try.

Thank you.

I like carrying an XL poncho like the Onewind one for a light glassing tarp and to go over my breathable rain gear in a true downpour. For meat an Adventure Medical 2 person mylar blanket seems to work well enough. Both are multi-purpose items too.

For 2 hunters or a real wet hunt I’ll pack my Seek DST tarp. It’s way bigger than the poncho but heavier & bulkier in the pack. The dyneema tarps are nice too, but I tend to stick to a silnylon or silpoly for really exposed places. I have never had dyneema in hail but have heard it can shred it easier than a silnylon with more stretch.

Another vote for Tyvek. I've been using the same piece for 10 years or so. I have a 7'x7' piece that was a cut off at a construction site for free. I've never washed it, but when it gets bloody, I hang it up and hit it with a light fan spray from a pressure washer. I stash it between the back panel and load shelf on my pack.

Is tyvek quiet? Compared to a silnylon or silpoly tarp? Durability? I have no experience with any of those 3, but will be brining something with me this fall.

Quiet enough, for my uses. I carry it mainly for processing, and sitting on it while glassing, if the ground is wet. Its plenty quiet for those purposes. It makes zero noise while folded and sandwhiched between layers of my pack frame.
As far as durability, Im still using the same piece after
9 -10 years. Its also much cheaper than sylpoly or sylnylon.
