Well, I guess it's the dog days of summer! Hot, sometimes muggy, and just lazy days. Of course, out west we are more active in the outdoors than a lot of other areas, but it has been hotter than hell! What are you people doing during these days to pass time, train, or gear up for the upcoming hunting seasons? mtgreg

I have been good about working out at least once a day. If I have a morning open I will get up early and mountain bike or hike a trail with weight to a 3D course to shoot my bow. Otherwise, weights and or stair stepper in the AC. Shooting my bow multiple times a day. Listening to podcasts, watching elk YouTube and getting excited!

Working out 6 days a week, lifting and running or rucking depending on my mood. Going to work like a good suburban bound husband does. Maybe a little fishing, swimming and paddle boarding with the kids on the weekends at the lake. Smoking meat. Shooting my bow in the early Morning hours. Spraying weeds and trying to keep up on the yard maintenance. Mostly waiting for hunting season to start.

Working my 2 hunting dogs a bit every day during long walks. Recall, heeling, changing direction. Just basic stuff. My Vizsla pup needs work on birds but it is simply too hot to drop him off at trainers. Too young to be working in this heat so I am waiting. That puts him behind schedule for this fall but so be it.

Getting back into waterfowl. Working on grassing my layout blind, setting up my new decoys with Texas rigs. Picking up a new decoy bag today and will get that all organized this coming week. I haven't duck hunted in over 30 years but I'm looking forward to it. I have put together a small set up with a few dozen decoys that will be easy to set up and carry in and out by myself and go from there.

Dog days of summer? haha I've pretty well got everything dialed in for this falls hunts. Just practicing every day, getting the last bits of my gear lined out, and patiently waiting for cameras to click away. Start to feel the pressure of archery elk mounting in my chest around the beginning of august. 😦

Did some scouting and cut poles for the tent frame. I am basically a tightly wound spring and will be fully released come September. Very blessed to have my health and hunting close to home.

It's not all that hot. Had several mornings in the mid 30's

This will be my first trip out since hip replacement surgery, April 28th. Taking the grandson over to Az. on the Colorado river for rabbit and scouting for dove. 103 today, overnight it get down to a bone chilling 85. but we will be in room during the heat of the day, or sitting in the river.
