Does everyone that kills a 190 class buck just round up to 200”?

I've got a 199" deer and I'd still rather get a 200" deer than a 400" elk. 199" is not 200".
That’s a toss up for me, I saw what I am 95% sure was a 400 inch bull and was an unreal specimen… never seen something like that outside of Estes park on the hoof… just dwarfed every other bull and cow he was with, would like to see a true 200” buck so I can compare how each made me feel haha

I got to spend about an hour within 60 yards of a 400” bull waiting for a shot with my bow and then got to see him on someone’s wall the following year. A 200”deer is much more rare where I live. I’d make the argument that a giant free range mule deer is one of the few species that can’t be bought.

That’d be an idea for a YouTube channel I could get behind. Become an official scorer and walk around trade shows with a tape asking people if you can score their mounts.

I’ve seen clips of a guy that does that with dudes heights. He asks them how tall they are and then pulls out a tape after they tell him 😂 same same

Try asking women their weight and pulling out a scale.

I’ve seen a guy that goes around asking if height matters to chicks and when they say yes he puts a scale down and asks them to stand on it. Most refuse 🤣🤣🤣

A lot of my clients from back east would absolutely lose it when they saw a 150in mule deer. When all people have seen there whole life is basket whitetails its hard to convince them they are looking at an immature mule deer

Technology may soon (or already) be able to help call BS on score rounder uppers and bro guessing. I recently heard about scoring apps for lidar equipped phones such as the iphone max. Maybe someone that has a newer iPhone could test this and verify accuracy against animals with known scores? My android doesn't have lidar sensors so I can't do it. Again, no idea how accurate these are but like anything using ai and technology it will only get better and more accurate with time.

Fishermen are also well known for rounding up. Can't tell you how many 17 inch 22 inchers I've seen.

So many guys acting like they’re killing 180”-200” deer but once a tape comes out they lose 20+”. Just a few bucks from the last 10 years or so. All taken on OTC or super low point tags. My buddy has the other half of our success and his bucks have all been 150”-158”. My brother killed a 167” 3x3 that was the biggest body/head of any mule deer I’ve ever been apart of. I think we got 95 or 96lbs of boned out meat off it. I’m working to break the 170” mark but every time one of these guys step out I get jacked up and punch my tag.

These bucks go from 20”-28” wide and 154”-167”

Edit. My brother just sent me a pic of his 170” 😉 3 point

I spent yesterday walking around the hunting expo looking at mounts. Many of which I’ve seen pictures of online and heard claims of scores. I feel like I hardly ever hear people talk about killing deer in the 190’s but I do hear a lot of claims of 200” deer.
I saw a post today of a really nice typical 4 point with no eye guards. The post said #200inchclub. It was a nice buck but jeez.. do people realize how big a deer has to be to score 200” as a typical? You’re not fooling anyone but yourself.
I kill to follow a b&c scorer around that place and get their honest opinions on some of these animals.
A true 190 sounds great to me. I have friends do that same thing, and they’re about 10 to 15 inches off the mark. You shouldn’t be judging your hunt by the score of the animal anyway but so many do little peckers I guess.

Monster 3x is awesome!

The instances where I see people throwing out these crazy numbers are when they either:

A) Have never actually held or seen bucks of the caliber they’re claiming so they assume theirs must be close to that magic number
B) Guess nobody will ever correct them so they take the rough score from the tailgate back at camp and tack on 5-10”
C) Don’t take enough time to score it thoroughly or are a product of Common Core and can’t add fractions

Usually it’s a combination of those. Which is sad because big bucks are cool no matter what they tape out at and some of us just genuinely want to know what they are so we can be better at judging ourselves.

Awesome bucks !!! Now if I was a betting man I’d say they are 200+ gross but what do I know. I would have also thought the one in velvet would be the bow kill, the one out of rifle. Wyoming?
They're not. The velvet one is 198 7/8 and the other is 198 4/8 gross if I remember right. These are both really special deer and they still don't truly make it over 200. I am guilty of rounding up and sometimes saying they're right at 200. I don't think I'm the flagrant exaggerator the OP was pointing out though.
