Does anyone shop at Cabela's anymore? I don't anymore........selection

Only on the occasion I get a gift card. We do take the kids to get their picture taken with Santa there though.

When I was a kid my dad would drive me to the Wheeling location which is about 2 hours from where I live. We'd make a day of it and would always get something. Now I have a few hundred in rewards and cant even find anything to spend it on that I can justify. Prices are sky high and mostly junk. Always end up on gohunt buying gear.

Couple of times a year. We don't live too close to either but if we're in the area the kiddos like to see the fish tank and get a yearly hoodie with the BP logo on it. The place isn't the draw it used to be but still kinda fun to wander for a few minutes.

Cabelas is not what it used to be, but it still is a very positive advertisement for the hunting and fishing community. Non outdoor people come into Cabelas for shopping and come away with a very favorable impression of our community

I agree that it has definitely gone down hill as far as clothing selection for sure. Seems like it’s mostly bass pro brand or nothing else. I also was not happy when they changed their policy on their “ lifetime socks”. Oh well times change I guess.

Got one 15 minutes from the house and mainly go there for the kids. They like to sit in the boats and look at the mounts and see the fish tank. We do the Santa pictures every year. Christmas usually brings me a gift card that I burn on ammo or fishing lures. But if I’m shopping for something I go to Fleet Farm. The man’s mall. Or I buy it online.

From 1990-2010 they would call me for a wellness check if I didn't order something every week. I haven't bought anything since about 2018 shortly after the BPS buy out. Several reasons. One is They stopped offering my size in most Cabelas brand items. Other reasons are their Cabelas brand clothing became crap and they started just offering the BPS brand, I think redhead? With rise of internet shopping I found I liked using smaller specialty retailers rather than the big boxes.

I think also one thing that contributed to my lack of orders was that I started making better money around 2004/5 and started buying top of the line hunting and fishing equipment. With the buy ,once cry once going on my stuff lasted and I and still use and am satisfied with that equipment. I suppose I got to where I was going with equipment needs.

At 62 and only hunting eastern whitetail at a lease out of a cabin and a climbing stand much of that stuff will probably out last me. I sure as heck aint wearing out and boots these days on that 25 yard walk from the cabin to the SXS and the 50 yard march to the stand from my SXS.

That said , If I was buying something I doubt Cabela’s would even enter my mind as a place to look.

Cabelas has gone down hill both on price and quality. Used to buy lots of stuff from them. Hardly buy anything from them now. Can't even remember when I got something from them, been 3-4 years now

I don’t necessarily shop there in the sense of just going and looking for crap there. But I have made and do make very specific purchases there for certain items that I do like.

I have a redhead parka that I purchased there a few years ago before the big winter to take with on Colorado 3rd season mule deer. I don’t do a ton of super late season stuff so I needed a good layer to take, and for the $130 I paid on sale the thing had been great. It’s the warmest coat I own and didn’t cost me an arm and a leg, and the waterproofing works well enough.

I like the cheap redhead camo t-shirts for what they are. Cheap, extra, camo shirts. I always have a few on hand as extras back at the pickup or back in the tent on base camp type hunts. They’re not as nice as my Kuiu merino, but they’re great cheap extras that you can get for basically nothing on their sales.

Their cabelas branded gray wool blend socks are the only socks I wear for work during the winter. They’re inexpensive and wear like iron, they don’t stink, and they’re the perfect weight to wear with my work boots. And the price is great for the quality of product they are.

I have a cabelas guide gear rain jacket that’s better than any other rain gear I’ve ever owned, and it cost about half as much as anything comparable on the market. It’s gore tex lined and treated, and it’s cheap enough that if it gets destroyed I won’t be heartbroken.

Their gear has a place, and certain things are still a great buy. Most of my gear isn’t from them, but I have a few key pieces of gear that I wouldn’t own from anyone else, as I don’t feel more dollars spent would equate to any more or greater performance.

We have quite a few BPS and 1 Cabelas somewhat close. But still an hour drive.
If im in the area ill stop in and see if there is anything I want. But most times they don't have much of anything I need.
I normally get quite a bit of gift cards from Family for there and ill normally use them then to buy something weather it be reloading powder mostly or something similar. But any more thats about it.
Their gun selection sucks other than Handguns. But even then I can get anything they can from my local guy cheaper and in town and have it in about 2 days. Normally just look and handle a gun then go to my guy to order one.

I went to Cableas once last year...needed a couple lbs of trap wax to finish my traps, wanted to get them in ground. I try to avoid Cabelas/BP whenever possible.

When there were only 2 Cabela’s in the country(Kearney and Sydney), the Sydney store was like a destination event. Too bad what happened after Bass Pro. All my shopping now is at Scheel’s and using my free gift cards as rewards from my credit card.

I was in one a month or so ago, they had a surprisingly good selection of MFC galloup streamer flies. All their other fishing stuff was cheap trash.

They had a good selection of stuff for dogs too. I didn’t look at any guns because you had to stand in line to talk to somebody but they had a shitload of guns.

I went to the Kearney one in the early 1990s on a family road trip. I do t remember a whole lot about it but my dad was excited for it.

Yes I have started shopping there again. Most of their shit is over priced. Some of it though I have been finding to be better than online.

Meanwhile my sportsmans warehouse and other LGS are just jacking their prices up and up.

After the Bass Pro buyout, I treat the place kinda like a Sportsman's Warehouse. Cheap stuff, quality varies wildly. Used to be Cabelas brand items could be trusted to be pretty decent quality. Not any more.

Still, I stop by when I get into the city. Go figure.

I buy all of my hunting tags and other hunting related purchases on my Cabelas card. When i use the points I've earned, it is about the only time I shop there. I currently have $150 in points and will take advantage of the 10% off cardholder Monday's when i catch one. Looking to get a new tripod for hunting season this year. I drive past BP to get to Scheels when I want to see a better selection and price.

They're now basically a Gap. BBQ shirts, shorts, ball caps, Crocs, $400 coolers and so on. Fishing Department is well stocked. Footwear is basically Chinese. As a serious mountain hunting outfitter, they've become a joke but if bass fishing or family camping is your thing, you should be able to find something.
