Does anyone eat coyote regularly

I don’t eat coyote regularly. But I did eat it once. I cooked up a steak on the grill with salt and pepper and I didn’t think it was bad.

I love eating mtn lion. Also have eaten bobcat and that wasn’t that great for me.

Hmmmph... I just did a simple crock pot with the bobcat, and boy it really turned out great! The meat reminded me of a Turkey leg, in terms of color and consistency. Obviously it didn't have those psuedo tendons running thru the leg muscles like the Turkey does. But yeah... was pleasantly surprised with how the Bobcat turned out!

Yea I don’t doubt you! Maybe just the cat I ate or way I cooked it. I’ve heard others say bobcat was good. So makes sense

And I remember being really intrigued by how pristine things looked inside the bobcat's abdomen, even before I got to removing stuff. Not near as um... wet-looking inside them like it seems on a MuleDeer.

Yea they seem to be a really clean critter. Like to stay clean. Don’t smell near as nasty as coyote does

I lived in Calgary in 1989. That winter the Cops busted a Chinese restaurant after being tipped off. There were something like 32 coyote carcasses in their freezers. So I am guessing that I have probably eaten it a time or two...

If I ever see one of the wanderers that pass through this part of Iowa every so often, I will try to kill it and eat it. No regs. on mountain lions in IA.

That being said, we do have bobcat trapping season in IA. Anybody tried eating one of them?
Bobcat is good, I cut in chunks, rolled in seasoned flour and fried. Taste is in between chicken and pork

So I actually googled this, this afternoon and it turns out my memory is "fuzzy". It was actually in Edmonton in the early 90's.

I eat them. I do a carnitas rub and squeeze orange, jalapeño, garlic and onion in the vac bag and sous vide the hind leg for 24hrs. Comes right off the bone and makes some killer tacos. Rinella’s way will dry it out way too much. Not bad tasting but you can do it way better than that video. They are definitely in my top 5 game meats. They are super complex in flavor like bear but don’t have the amazing fat bears have. Don’t knock it till you try it. I’ll take black bear over elk anyday and this is close in my book if you do it right.

Reviving this old thread, but for everyone that says how bad yotes smell when they are skinning them, what time of year are you bagging them? I've heard summer is no good, lots of dead, rotting stuff going in their belly, but the winter is better.

Interested in getting into hunting yotes, but I don't like killing things I haven't at least considered how to extract the most benefit from.

My boy asked me to bring home a rump. He made a Coyote Katsu out of it. And it was quite good! But that one, I personally smelled him and gave the OK. He didn't have any bad smell. Seems like the ones living in places with limited water access trend more towards being stanky.

This year we started eating the bobcats. They are actually pretty good. Here’s some Bobcat Teriyaki I made on new years.

Haven’t worked up the courage to eat a coyote, by the time I’m done skinning them I can’t wait to throw them in the tractor bucket and take them out to my carcass pile. Maybe next year.
