Does anybody make a good orange vest?

Is that all? Good to know. I suppose all a gun has to do is shoot too. Maybe I should sell my Kimber and buy Mosin-Nagant and a pair of $40 Bushnell binos.

I wouldn't quite say that. If the gun and binos were only for making you legal without any other expectations......then I would agree.

It's no different than wearing clothes that are comfortable and light wieght and unrestrictive. Wearing a cardboard box painted orange would be legal but unpractical for most

Disclaimer: I own Orange Aglow. Thanks to everybody who mentioned the company!

My hunting partner turned me onto your vests and back panels. This fall was my first time using your vest and I must say it is very lightweight and very quiet. Once on, you forget it is even there... until you have to add/remove layers.

I use the back panel myself and have no complaints. My Dad got jealous I think and wrapped an extra hunting vest around his pack, so I may have to pick him up one as well for next season.

I have a blaze camo vest from cabelas I liked from a few years back, it was a medium weight material and had pockets like their "pack vest" but w/o the rear panel pocket. It also was zip up. I like using that one when I hunt in a state that allows it. CO doesn't.

For a CO vest I picked up a deluxe vest from midway when there were on sale and modified it (shortened the length so it wasn't below my waist and added some interior zip pockets since I choose to carry my license in my vest so I have it at all times I am legally hunting no matter what layers I'm otherwise wearing). That material pilled out moderately this season so I'll only get a couple out of it I think but it only cost $10.

Cardboard box? A gun just has to go boom? With yours and his response I feel like I just walked into a kindergarden room. (shaking head).

But he did get this right......"Heck I'm making this stuff way to hard I guess". The vest I recommended is everything he requested and then some........except having a pattern to it. Lightweight, quiet, durable, two pockets.......but it's solid orange.

So not worth the argument everyone has different needs. I like the Orange aglow to me they offer the perfect combination of stretch and light wieght materials. There are new vest designs but glad the old style works so great for you. How many times this year have you worn it? Just curious

Who says it's old style? How many styles can a vest be made into? Talk about old style.......I still have a zip up reversible quilted one that's probably 35 years old. Yet the style isn't much different than the newer one. I've worn it zero times this year. My rifle tags start today. But my daughter has worn it about 1/2 dozen times in the last month and a half. She likes it better than the smaller one I got her, even though it's quite big on her.

How many styles do you think exist with this description from his OP?

"I would think that if some company came up with lightweight, quiet, durable vest with a couple good pockets and maybe a pattern to it (I hate solid orange - even if animals can't see color I swear it is more noticeable) it would sell pretty well."

I've seen many that fit that description, but they're all pretty much the same style.

I just wear the cheap orange mesh ones with expandable sides that cost $5. One on me and one on my pack. I can use all my normal clothes that way.

This is the way to go....I've owned vests from many companies including Sitka and UA. I like the cheap ones that have nothing to them.

That's why when I read it my first thought was he was looking for something different than the poly/cotton vest they drag out every fall in every Walmart, Bass pro, and Cabela's.

He may very well be looking for something different. But that's what he posted. I've known guys that took heavy insulated orange coats on a hunt and then it was 75 degrees all week, and that's the only orange they brought.

I have a orange vest made by frog togs. It is lightweight and reasonably durable. It'll also fold up into its own pocket and end up about the size of a tennis ball but compresses down some more. It has only one pocket( the one it stows into) but I use my jacket, pants and back pack pocket to hold my stuff.

It's ok. Not everyone understands sarcasm.

I started the thread because I was looking for something a little better than the $10 gas station special orange vest. If you want to use one of those that's fine. But if you want to jump on th thread and tell me that all an orange vest needs to do is be orange, then you're not really helping.

I used a SECO surveyors vest for a while. They have tons of pockets if you're looking for pockets. Note: You'll have to cut off the reflective striping. I too found the ultrathin cheapo vest to be my favorite.
