Anyone familiar with any courses in the Denver area complying with the new renewal requirements for CHP permits? I haven't looked exhaustively yet but so far I only see full courses offered and not renewal specific ones.

My permit is expiring soon and I foolishly didn't book a slot with the sheriff sooner for renewal so currently they are out in July, after the new requirements are in place.

I scored a cancelation spot so I won't have to deal with this crap for renewal after all. BUT for those that do, the "shoot indoors" francizes have or will have some 2hr renewal courses with the written and shooting test. One of the denver ones has one offered in a couple weeks and the broomfield one said they would have some starting in a few weeks.

Are you taking about Conceal Carry?
I just renewed mine. You should have been sent a letter from the sheriff explaining how to do it.

I filled it out online, went to the sheriff’s office and they took my new pic and I’ll get my new permit in the mail.

Don’t wait until it expires

Yes (Colorado calls it a Concealed Handgun Permit: CHP) in my county it requires an appointment with the sheriff and those appointments were booked out past July 1 when the new requirements start, and after my permit expires. So I was going to have to deal with that but snagged a cancellation spot luckily.

The sheriff did not send me any notice about renewal.

That’s interesting. Larimer sent me a letter and I did most of the renewal process online then only had to walk in to the Sheriff’s office to sign and get a new picture which was done in 5 mins. Surprised how quick and easy it was this time around - not that it was that hard to renew last but adding the online option definitely sped things up.

Each county is different and the more populated ones are backing up.

Adams county is scheduling 4x10 appointments each day, Tue-Thur only, that is it. There are half million residents in this county and there is a new process creating more hurdles in renewal starting in July so the subset of those half million folks that need a renewal, are renewing as early as allowed, or are rushing to get their first permit have filled up the 1400 appointments between now and July 1.

Obviously if the county was interested in better serving its 2nd amendment residents it would ramp up the appointments available. But considering the senator that sponsored the bill that created the extra hurdles in July is from this county I wouldn't hold my breath.
