December $487 prefit group buy, several barrels are a go

Ya but quality 6.5-284 brass is hard to come by these days. Lots of options for the -06 based cases.

Which ones feed into 6-06 without any neck turning out of curiosity?

30-06 has good brass but would be multiple steps necking and likely turning.

25-05 would be simple neck down but doesn’t has lots of good brass does it?

270 and 280 are both longer iirc so not a simple single stage neck down.

Am I off base on those or forgetting any?

Also 6-284 dies I know are readily available, not sure on the others.

It's a long shot but maybe a few others will think it's cool and jump in with me.

Tikka .750 Taperless contour threaded 5/8 x 24
Cartridge - 284 Winchester
Throat - .139" FB? (The GAP Match reamer from PTG shows .139" FB, but I'm not sure what PBB has on hand?)
Length - 20"
Twist - 8

PBB only lists the standard 284 WIN which in SAAMI form has zero freebore. I have seen some other guys on here that have got this chambering from them and there is enough freebore to run the longer heavier bullets where they like to be so they must have something like this GAP Match reamer. Just trying to run the 162 ELD-X so nothing too crazy. I think that is the ideal weight range for the 284 WIN in a hunting application.

There was a maker of 6mm-06 headstamped brass. Everyone is out of stock right now. It is supposed to be a limited run yearly. But to your point, yes there is a bit of work to make 6mm-06 or the AI version from Lapua brass.

I have a PBB 284win, the standard reamer is fine. The sammi chamber doesn’t have a normal style freebore, it starts as a larger diameter and then has a really long taper. Off the top of my head I don’t recall the COAL of the 162eldm but it’s not stuffed in the case.

If you are using Peterson brass you’ll probably need a small base die though fyi.

@hereinaz @NSI i don’t want to assume anything here. The 6NSI headspaces using 6.5PRC go/no go gauges?
You might get more responses in the 6 NSI thread linked below. My understanding was the reamer spec is the same as the AW2 6.5 PRC reamer with only a two dimensional changes to neck diameter for the 6mm bore and freebore length for the 6mm bullets, so a 6.5 PRC headspace gauge would be accurate.

I’m just gonna toss this wacky idea out there because ya never know, ya know?

Tikka .750 Taperless contour threaded 5/8 x 24
Cartridge - 257 Weatherby
Throat - 0.257 (not a typo, should work for factory and long high bc reloads)
Length - 20"
Twist - 7.5 (8 would be fine too)

Idea here is brass costs the same as 6UM, there’s factory ammo available for in a pinch, Peterson, Norma, etc brass out there, dies and reloading supplies a plenty, and a bunch of high bc 25 bullets coming around. Also I’ve seen where 7 rem mag brass can be lubed up and run through a 257 die in one pass, ready to load, so further adds to the reloading supply versatility. Should feed and cycle smoooth

Only penalties I guess are some recoil, and saying Weatherby out load at the range can cause certain types of fuddery to ‘enlighten you’ without your permission…

Anybody?

For my own education/knowledge - are there other chamber/throat specs for the 6.5 prc?
There are, another popular one is the Alex Wheeler spec with .180 throat for the 115s. I dont have any links off hand. The 6 PRC threads have the info.
