I am looking for strictly a day pack during my western hunts that can carry my day gear with spotter and the ability to carry a light (30#) bone out meat load. I currently have a Badlands Superday that is a nice gear pack but not very convenient for carrying the spotter and definitely not much off a meat hauler. I like the looks of the Kuiu 1850 but was wondering what other options I might look at.

The MR scapegoat could do that, I'd say it tops out around 60lbs right now, but it's new and still putting it through its paces. It would be a little more robust than the kuiu build wise, but I think an icon pro frame would carry weight better.

Kifaru has some daypack options with stays that would do what you're talking about. Costs a lot more though.

The first one that comes to my mind is the Exo 2000 but truthfully it's probably more pack and more money than you want for your described needs. If you think you'll ever want a 3500 or 5500 it's a good purchase, but if you already have a dedicated meat hauler that you are happy with it's probably more than you need. The Kuiu should be a solid option for what you describe. I hear a lot of guys on here don't like the Kuiu packs with heavy loads but I've heard nothing but good things about them for weights under 50 lbs. and a lot of guys love the bag layout/design.

How long is your torso? If you have a shorter torso 19" or less, the eberlestock X2 isn't too shabby. Comfort (if you have a short torso) is fine with 20lb or so in it. It will stand up to hauling out a load but it will weight your shoulders with heavier weights. The bat wing pockets will fit a spotter and tripod well.

The newer badlands 2200 have a spotting scope sleeve as well as a meat rack that rolls out from the bottom. Might be worth taking a look at as well. Good luck!

I was in the same boat as you. I went with the Exo 2000. Haven't hauled any heavy loads out with it yet, but so far it's everything I wanted in a day pack. At some point I'll look at picking up the 5500 bag for longer trips.

myatery ranch crewcab is an option. Older version of the cabinet with a small day pack and wing pockets set on their Nice frame. 25-45 liters of capacity with a meat shelf and expansion capability. They can be had on eBay with a frame for $250-300.

If you're not looking to carry heavy weight I'm sure KUIU or Exo would be lighter then a comparable Kifaru set up.

I'm in the same boat. Trying to decide between Exo 2000 or 3500 as a day pack to go with a 5500 for the long pack.

Does cost matter? Many of the higher end packs will cost you from $350 to $550 or more. If you are truly looking to step up from that Badlands pack into a combination day pack - occasional 30# meat hauler....you can do that nicely for less money.

One question to answer is simply how much frame and bag do you want for a day pack? If it's going to be hauling meat loads multiple times each year you might want a pack with more frame and length. On the other hand, if you're most interested in a day-hunting pack which has the ability to handle meat loads up to 50+ pounds on a very occasional basis, you've got choices in the $150 - $250 range. Those packs won't be as comfortable when loaded with meat, but that may not be a big deal on one-time pack-outs. An example is the Eberlestock X2 which is a rather deluxe day pack that carries great while hunting. It has plenty of options for internal and external gear carry. It will handle 50# without question, but a good bit of that will be transferred to shoulders simply because the X2 is not designed with a stiff frame, load lifters and a strong hip belt.

Some of the answer is just a matter of what a guy likes on his back. I don't like to carry more pack than I need...size or price. I've got some great packs which were rather expensive and I use them on hunts where they apply. They stay home when I need a day pack though. Lots of other good choices out there.

I guess I should have added that the30# would be extra on top of my normal day bak weight that should not be mire than around 20#. I look at an Exo 3500 a friend has and it is nice. I also saw a crew cab and is very nice but pack is just to heavy to start with. Ill have to check out the new 2200 (had old style and did not care for it. Also will look at the Exo 2000.

They replaced the crew cab with the cabinet. It's about 2 pounds lighter.
That said an EXO2000 or even a kuiu Icon come in right about 4 pound. Pretty sure the seek outside perigean is sub four pounds also.

Why not consider a mystery ranch Pinter or Stone glacier solo, each with the right capacity for a day pack and detachable with a load shelf so you can carry a dry bag or meat bag between the pack and frame. Also, the SG is super light.

If you are not a hauling a ton of stuff, this lumbar pack works pretty darn well and would do 30 pounds of meat with no issues as it has a meat shelf. Here is some info on it and watch the video---you'll be impressed.

Kifaru 22 mag on the duplex. Kickass day pack.. All personal day stuff plus a really full load of camera gear, then a full sheep cape and some meat sandwiched between the back and frame. Also packed moose antlers on it the same way.. Worked very very well. My .02

I just did 80 miles on the AT with the 14'r at just under #30 including food/water. It was super comfortable the whole way and I was able to get everything in there. Im sure it could handle day gear plus some meat.
