Finding the OAL on a single shot rifle with an extractor is something new for me. The Scout has an extractor and I can’t use my Hornady OAL Gauge since the case isn’t fully chambered until the action is closed.
The way I’ve done it is to take a fired case, slightly squeeze the case mouth to provide tension on a bullet, insert the bullet long, chamber the dummy cartridge and close the action. Then I open the action and measure the cartridge OAL. I know the bullet is jammed into the lands so I start at 20 thou. off jammed.
Is this the best way to measure OAL for my Scout?
