Cutting Edge Lazer Kills?

Tule elk killed with a 180 Lazer out of a 300 Win Mag. Don’t remember off the top of my head the velocity but I think just under 3K. Bull was 200 yards quartered to slightly. Shot was point of shoulder dropped in tracks. The bullet shed it petals like advertised making separate wound channels. The core or base of the bullet was found at the opposite hip just under hide in rear quarter. I was very impressed with the way it performed. They were easy to get to shoot well in my rifle. Very consistent. But with that said I only shot about 100 of them total and only this one kill to show for it. I would not hesitate to use them again!

I’d like to hear more about the fragmenting mono options out there. Lots of people saying they use them, but not many pictures of results.

Theres a pretty extensive thread on long range hunting about hammer bullets.

I think there are a few posts on the Hammers you can read. I killed my deer this year with the Lehigh Controlled Chaos and it worked fine.

The hammers have lots of good reviews but the two people I know and trust have had very mixed reviews. Some have worked fantastic some just penciled through kinda like the old blue Barnes X bullet.

Outside of a few videos, the Lazers just don't have much press.

Were those issues with the Hunter line?

Would like to hear the details of hammer failures if you don’t mind. They would be the first I’ve heard of...probably because they’re relatively new and less used than others that we hear about failure on. Thanks

Tagging in. When I find some time I’ll be doing load dev for 145 lazers in a 7 SAUM. Also interested in any input on load dev lessons learned with the lazers.

With the 125 lazer in 6.5 I used barnes lrx data to start with. The lazer could take more powder before pressuring out than the lrx.

Well if anyone has a late shoulder season hunt and wants to test out some 30 cal 200 grain lazers, I have 50 of them that I’ll donate, ya know, for science. I wanted to try them out in my 300 PRC but I have zero time at the moment and really want to see how these bullets perform.

They were both the hunter line. One of the guys used them this past year and said they worked great on the elk they shot. Totally different wound channel than the previous elk.

Things that make you go hmm! HAHA.

My buddy Tim is running lazers and has had nothing but great things to say out of them..

That being said 275 grain bullet out of a 33xc should flat f%%% stuff up.

Good to know. I used the 142 Lehigh this year in my 280ai but that is the heaviest 7mm they have. I planned to try the Hammer 155 this year.

I’ve shot three deer with hammers and all never took a step. Ranges were only from 80 yards to 300. The closest two were neck and head shots while still hunting. They didn’t pencil, but had a small exit probably because they didn’t have time to expand at that speed and less mass to travel through. The 300 yard shot was pretty much picture perfect performance on a bedded buck. I was really hoping to put them to the test on an Oregon coast elk this year as well, but never got the opportunity. Maybe 2021. I will say that they were stupid easy to find an accurate load for, and I can push them fast enough to compete with the 215 out to around 700 yards for velocity and proper expansion. The Berger’s still reign supreme for wind deflection, energy and expansion up to and past that. Il a believer in the hammer bullets and am ordering some in a few other calibers. I’ll keep posting results as they happen, and have no problem posting bad ones either. Just a firm believer in if it works, run it!

I’m going to order some of the 125 Maximus and see how they shoot in my creedmoor, now that I finally found enough varget to make it worth while

Also considering the 124 hammer hunter but keep seeing mixed things. Some testimonials but nothing more than someone saying they shot an animal or 2

My somewhat limited experience and extensive research has came to the conclusion that monos (especially hammers) need FAST twist to expand reliably.
