Custom mini Canadian belt knife

Working in some CBK inspired designs with @Thegman. We are calling this style the AKBK (Alaskan Belt Knife)

What do you all think of the various profiles?

Not having them in hand, I like the blade design on the bottom and the middle ones. Basically I like the more upswept bellies with the less extreme spear point effect. If the blade has a severe spear point I find in more difficult to zip an animal open with the edge up. I prefer a more subtle drop point. The upswept belly makes the blade more slicey and a better skinner. Honestly, I’d probably pick the bottom one. It looks like a nice slim design that will cut and gut well.

I am between blades 2 and 5 myself!

Of that group, I'd agree. I think your latest will be even better.

It's interesting in my experience that very subtle changes in length, point angles and shapes, belly lines, blade weight etc. make noticeable differences in performance. All the CBK patterns I've used are among the best knives I've used, just some are a little better than others.

That is, for users that notice those kinds of things. When I see the knives a lot of guys use, well, not everyone notices these differences...

Your work is georgeous. Love the handles and the blade design. I love the slimmer blades (back to belly). I know the half tang should be durable enough for taking apart hundreds of animals. But I have an internal, irrational thing about buying a custom half tang knife that I can’t seem to get over.
Yeah I get that. Keep in mind I have made hundreds of partial tangs for people and have never had one come back yet. Of course I also make full tangs

Pretty cool Grohmann has these kits to build your own knife. Very basic but they have all three flavors (bird and trout, etc). Screenshot_20260403_183343_Chrome~2.jpg

I cleaned a small moose with the bird and trout one time. I twas sharp and ready to go, so I said what the hell. Did it all without a touchup.

I finally put an edge on this MKC west slope and tried it on some deer. Was actually very impressed. It made it through three deer and the shape is about right, nice sweep to it. The edge is a bit thick but overall I was happy with the way it preformed.

I’m not generally a fan of MKC knives overall, they are just way over priced. Funny this is branded as a fishing knife when it does a much better job at cutting up game than the jack stone. Thin enough stock as well to not feel like a pry bar.

For a commercially available knife. If you have someone who will put an actual edge on it… it’s the best option I have found.

I need a mini CBK with glow in dark scales
I can make that. I just heat treated some new CBK profiled blades and I have some new glow in the dark material to try. None of the glow in the dark material is perfect though. Its like lume on a watch face. It needs some light to get it glowing.

A mini with glowing the dark would be the perfect knife for me. At least if I shine a light, I have a “chance” to find it. How many Benjamins we talking?
