Custom mini Canadian belt knife

Might just be best to start another thread but I’ll just continue on this one. Here it is fellas. Zero ground magnacut 3” belt knife. I can make both the LT handles or mine but here’s an old post of mine over on instagram explaining why I prefer my handle design (I don’t think you need to have Instagram to view it). You can also see how I taper the front of the scales here. I much prefer this over thumb scallops.

That has come up nice. Looks like it will be a good user knife (y)

Well, I profiled out a light and regular version to try. I will probably get these finished off some time in the new year.

New knife arrived today from Cyprus Creek Knives. 3” version of a Canadian belt knife in MagnaCut with vintage linen micarta scales. Nice high grind and very thin behind the edge. It missed deer season by about a week, but I think it’s going to be an everyday knife that handles my small and big game chores. I specifically asked for a kydex taco-style a heat with an ulticlip. Jared Beavers makes a really nice, handmade knife for a reasonable price.

That's a very nice piece!

I normally hand clean and then use their supplied rod to touch up the edge after every use. Got lazy in Minnesota and ran it through the dishwasher overnight (they have incredibly hard/high mineral count water there). Came back to the blade finish being "distressed".
The dishwasher is a very bad place for any knives, but especially non stainless and wood. The heat/detergent combo is no bueno.

I have a grohmann #2 in carbon with the flat grind (very important) and a cold steel version. Used the cold steel to process my last buck and it was the best knife I’ve used on a deer. I’m a big fan of the rubber handle and the blade shape is ideal. I will say that it’s a bit thick so I thinned it on a diamond stone and its cutting ability improved significantly. I also have a custom kitchen knife hobby and unlike 99% of outdoor knives, good custom kitchen knives are built for practical use. That means thin ground blades with good ergonomics and well heat treated quality steels. Not always super steels, though I have a killer chefs knife in Cru Wear, simple carbon like 52100 tool steel in a thin convex grind and ht to 63-64 Rockwell will blow your mind in cutting ability, yet still be tough and easy to sharpen.

With inspiration from this post ,changed up my old style and tried to copy a version of the OP knife.
All ground and scales attached today....will post finished pictures when complete.

I love seeing all these mini Canadian belt knives. They would be awesome EDC blades. It’s been one of my favorite blade profiles for years, from daily farm work to my hunting knives. I have used the MKC jackstone, EESE Ashley game knife, grohmann, and the cold steel. For the price the cold steel is an awesome knife. I’ve had my eye on the bark river mini Canadian, but it doesn’t look to fit the bill like some of y’all’s builds. Might just have to get a custom. Good looking builds everyone!

Thanks all for Inspiration but it cost me some time going down the rabbit hole of all the past posts and this one about Canada belt knife and also the best hunting knife ones…nothing new just had to make a few to try out. Kydex sheath’s same color as the handles next project. Also changed up my previous favorite knife. Not sure if I will remove the finger guard…never seemed to get in the way on the one I used this year.
Like has been said, maybe start another post but after searching likely don’t need another one.

Why that thickness with the blade?
If you are referring to mine? They are about 1-1/4 at the widest and .100 thick .
I just eyeball them when shaping and wanted some belly back to the handle(like someone suggested)First ones and likely not the last version. I make them to use and if they don't work like I want I make another one. I got a pretty good setup for a hobby shop ( commercial heat treat oven LN cold treatment tank and a 2x72 grinder )so I can make another version pretty easy . I still have a full-time job so I mostly do it for fun .

Sweet, you do great work. I was curious about the thickness, not the width. Thanks!

I like the belly and design.

I did notice the picture might have made them thicker…this is how I hold them and some hand size reference. I didn’t hand sand these either since they are test ones that I usually do.Another topic…love your bags might just order the wax set.
This form has cost me some money…but definitely worth it! Also attached a picture of a Christmas present I just finished.

Dixie those things look great! I'm curious to hear what you think of the smaller one vs the larger. Both look awesome.
Might favor the smaller one just handling it…but a do like a longer 4” blade for cutting the backstaps out. Definitely both sizes will get tested next year.
Might make a couple cord wrapped ones also…nice having 6’ of p cord if you need it. Came in handy this year when I needed to hang quarters and came up short on cord.
