Considering I'm building close to the same rifle but in 300 win mag, and I have a tenacity on order im going to second the Defiance Tenacity.

Same quality as their more expensive actions just with less options, from a company that's been around and isn't going to run out of gofundme money next month. Defiance knows how to do primary extraction, and trigger timing, no filing a cocking sear nonsense and losing pin fall for the handle drop to be perfect. Personally the only customs I was interested in at this point are Defiance/Borden and then Terminus, because Joel also knows how to time an action but the company is very new. The tenacity is just a wicked deal, so it won out over a Borden.

Mine will sport a Rock #4 so pretty much dead on a Bart3 my smith measured rock#4 at .730 @21" which is what im going to do, threaded 5/8 for a can.

Nothing wrong with a 30-06 especially with newer powders available now. The Serengeti reamer design setup by German Salazar is a great choice also.
I would have the #3 fluted but that’s a personal preference.
Do you have a gunsmith chosen already?

I was planning on Longrifles inc

Gona hold off on the fluting to save some cash. If I wanted lighter I think I’d really have to open my wallet.

Thinking with a 24 in tube I can play with some heavy bullets if I want or need to

Always had good luck with 300WM shooting minimum loads. Max 30-06 and min 300WM are in the same neighborhood.

30-06 is a great round and you can do some pretty cool things reloading with it as well. Myself and others here have gotten some good results with RL22 and RL17. 180 Accubond will get you around 2900 at max load with RL22 - with a 26" barrel you may be 2925-2940ish. RL17 should get you upper 2800s as well.

I have a load with the 168TTSX and IMR4350 - great powder - super accurate! Decent speed (around 2800+) too.

it's not as accurate as the heavier bullets, but a fun load is the 130TTSX over IMR 4064 - can get 3300+ out of that load.

30-06 is an oldie but a goodie :)

I like the 30-06, have built quite a few with Salazar’s reamer. Recoil shouldn’t be a concern in that weight class. There’s a pic of one on my website in a white Sako varmint wearing a Bart #3 at 22” if I remember. About 9lbs.

My 06 puts the same sized hole in my steel plate at 700 yds as my 300wby and 300rum do. Cant go wrong with the ol war horse!

Pieces coming together
Manners eh1 with bdl mini chassis
Bartlein 3 10 twist
Hawkins action screws

November the action will be ordered after a hunt. Followed by bdl and trigger and should be all set to head to the builder

I still am thinking LRI since I can likely run out and pickup the gun once complete. Other recommendations are appreciated.

I’m still scratching my head on the brake. If I want one or not. Kind of like the idea of less noise and blast, and saving a couple bucks. If I do thread it will be 9/16, and probably wouldn’t plan on screwing anything on for a while unless I feel it’s needed. 11lbs all up should be more than tolerable recoil wise, I think, it’s been years since I had an 06

Did a similar build last year on my old Rem action for my son. Bartlein 3b barrel. Definitely go with the Serengeti chamber. I threaded 5/8x24. You'll get close to 300WSM ballistics with the chamber if you reload and can use factory ammo. All with less recoil or use a brake. Very accurate cartridge.

I’ve gone full circle back to the ‘06....wish I hadn’t left, but it was an educational journey.

Building rifles and ammo just ain’t my pastime in Tikkaville....

Iv also come to the conclusion that I just don’t need the steam of a mag. Maybe one day when I feel I can shoot far enough to justify it I’ll get another magnum, but until then I think I’ll be able to load the 06 to whatever I want it to do. All that without the blast or recoil of a mag.

500 yards is a long f-n way....and there’s plenty of oommph in an ‘06. More than I’ll ever need except for showing off on steel.

Great list of parts so far! What action will you be using? What bottom metal?
Just curious why the mini chassis if going BDL?

I had the stock built for a Christensen arms Mesa, that stopped shooting, so it’s a take off. I also got the stock planning on possibly throwing another rem 700 footprint action in it, hence the mini chassis and Bartlein 3 barrel channel. Figured it would be easier swapping, and still the stock turned out plenty light.

I plan on standard Remington bdl, since that’s what the mini chassis is cut for and I don’t want to monkey with I’ll fitting metal if I have to. Unless I’m told otherwise.

Action wise I’m pretty set on a defiance tenacity long action. Looks like it gives me more than everything I want. The bighorn origin is up there on my list as well. Thought about trying a rem but by the time I spend the money it seems like I might as well go custom.

I’m thinking I can just send barrel, action and trigger to a builder and fit the mag box myself, but am also thinking of just having a professional do it all, with that list of parts I really want it done right.

As said this will be my first foray into a custom gun, pretty excited to see how it goes. This will be my one big game rifle for now, except times I can get the tikka out of my wife’s hands.

Thread the barrel! Add a thread protector to match. 419 sells a break I want that can be installed and taken off with ease. You are building also the same gun I want but 6.5 prc in a medium action. My smith Caleb installed a break on my dads Tikka and it’s amazing to shoot. Have a 6.5 cm Tikka coming next week that might get one too!

Here is some pictures from Calebs work for ideas.

She's an oldie but a goodie.

Mild mannered and aint fussy.

The Tenacity is a great value action!

Just be sure to have a reputable riflesmith assemble with care and she'll treat you well!

Tenacity is ordered, 2 months out. Gives me time to hopefully scoop up a triggertech and bdl on the cheap for Black Friday.

In the mean time the 243 has been doing some killing, first deer with something that didn’t start with a 3, impressed with the damage.

I still don’t know where I want to start with the 06 for reloading. Do I jump right on the 215 Berger bandwagon and see what those will do.

I have decided I’m going to thread at 9/16x24, throw a thread cap on there and do a brake if wanted/needed.
