Slipped on my new lowa tibets ll and grabbed my Dt1 with about 65lbs in it and went for a stroll. Left boot was great. No break in and I could walk until my legs gave out I'm sure. Right boot went to work on my heel. I got a blister in 2.5 miles out and the 1.5 miles strait back just sucked. Retied three times and got the heel lock eye so tight it was starting its own pressure point . Feels like everything is loose around the heel. Slight rub up and down and the whole pocket feels too big. Solutions for too much heel volume ?

I'll move my superfeet greens into them and see if it helps and cover my heel with moleskin and try again tomorrow.

Sounds like a fit problem. I had Lowa sheephunters and couldn't do anything about heel slip. It was a mismatch between my heel and the heelcup. I had to move to another boot.

I don't know if it was smaller, but a different shape for sure.

The ones that worked best for me so far were Kayland and Hanwag.

Same thing happened to be when I tried on the Tibets. My heal would come up too much. Had same issue with the Kenetreks I tried on.

I ended up up with the Zamberlan 960 Guide boot and added merino wool Superfeet. Never had a more comfortable bomb proof boot on my feet.

Try the merino Superfeet. They feel great.

I believe the Zamberlan's have a narrower heal cup which is why they fit me better.

Good to know. I have some Hanwag yukons but they are too big. There may be a pair of Tibets ll for sale if I can't make them work.

i know it's hard to find a place with lots of good quality boots that are actually in store to try on, but that's what i recommend. i had a horrible issue with heel slip and i tried and tried to find an answer through insoles, tape, different sizes, how you lace the boot, you name it i probably tried it. while some issues can be corrected by simply lacing differently or an insole, what worked for me was constantly trying on new boots. i took a chance and ordered the hanwag alaska gtx and got lucky----at first they hurt and i was nervous i made a mistake, but lathrop and sons urged me to stick with it and give them a chance. they broke in and i love them. keep trying new things until something works, dont blister up so bad trying to force it that you won't be hunting this year. wish i had a better answer

I may look at the hanwags again. The ones I have are too big and started to rub both heels after they really broke in. A size smaller in the hanwags may be the ticket. I've been sitting here looking at my feet and the whole lower leg and foot volume of my left foot and leg is larger than my right. It makes sense too. I drive a big rig in town all day and spend hours every day stomping on a 90lb clutch while sitting in line at the port. I need to use my right foot some while I'm just sitting there.

I have been searching for boots for a few years as well. Tried a ton on I still am trying to find a dealer with Zamberlan, Crispi and Hanwag boots. The best I have found so far are the Meindl Ultralights by Cabelas.

Thanks huntography I'll go see if they have them in today. Our Sportsman Warehouse stores recently switched back from Wholesale Sports so they are still acquiring stock

I'm about to head out with my pack and the lowas to my local trail. A quick stop on the Walmart for some mole skin and weigh the bag at Publix. I guessed 65lbs last night but I'll know for sure in a little while. The slip is not much and the rest of the boot fits great. The left boot is perfect. I'll probably have boots for sale this afternoon but I hope not.

I went to REI earlier this year and tried on everything that had a chance of fitting. The Zamberlans are nice boots but didn't work for me. I normally need a 12W and the 960 don't come in wide was my recall. I tried a different Zamberlan that was a wide, but had another issue. I'm like Shrek (and probably most people) in that my left foot is bigger than my right and fits differently. I found that a pair of the Meindls fit the best for me also, but after a break-in period am starting to have some heel problems also. The boots are great otherwise and were the best fitting that I could find to start with short of calling the L & S boys.

My recall is that REI may have all the brands that you want to try. Just check their website.

Please post what worked for you. I just did 4 miles on my local trail and my right boot isn't going to work at this point. I covered my heal with mole skin and made it through 4 miles but was just grindi g my heel. My heal doesn't move a lot but it's not solid either. Left foot couldn't be happier.
