Crispi Western River - Achilles Tendonitis

I’ve been using cheaper hiking/hunting boots for quite some time and finally decided to get a more high-end boot. I settled on the Western River by Crispi. After reading a lot of reviews on how great they are and how little, if any break in period is needed, I wore them on a short hike and then decided to really test them out. I did a 20 mile shed hunt and my feet have never been so sore. Minus general soreness, swelling, and a couple of mild hot spots under my big toes, my left Achilles felt destroyed after about mile 5. I can’t figure out why it’s just my left foot. I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this with any of their boots? I came from a very comfortable Vasque boot and would go back but the lacing eyelets were made of cloth and eventually ripped. I’ve read the stock insoles on these Crispi’s suck, so I’ve considered getting new ones- any suggestions on what type? Also I’ve never had a boot this tall before. Wondered if that’s contributed at all to the pain. Thanks for any input and I apologize if this has already been brought up.

I know this is an old post, but I have similar issues.

Did you ever get the issue with your Crispi boot resolved?

I almost never have Achilles issues, unless I'm doing some huge weekly mountain running miles too often... Like 80 miles a week with a lot of hard efforts. BUT, put my foot into a boot where there is pressure on my upper Achilles from the height of the boot, and I have to baby it very much to prevent tendonitis.

I first noticed this when I started skiing uphill for exercise. I went too hard to often, and the boot digging in to my Achilles gave me tendonitis.

I bought some nice scarpa plus evolution gtx last year and I noticed they do the same thing. I actually just gave myself tendonitis so badly with those boots that I can't run, even barefoot in a treadmill at the moment.

I think I need to find a type of boot that runs more vertically from the heel up to the top of the ankle, rather than cutting inward to closely follow the contour of the Achilles.

I wish I had more information for you on this- I put the boots away for the better part of a year after that shed hunt and have just been wearing them over the last month mainly as a work book. They’ve been fantastic for that, but I can’t say if they won’t hurt my Achilles again if I take them out on a big hike. I did buy some new insoles to see if they’d help. Will report with an update at a later date.

Yes I can usually wear mine for day hunts without issue. It seems to start to hurt when I start exerting myself.

Maybe I'm just getting old!

I created a thread inquiring for boot suggestions related to this issue. I'll let you know if I have any revelations.

Can try stretching before heading out as well as during periods of prolonged inactivity. Had issues with my calves and doing the stretches helped a lot.

Ever get this figured out? I just used a pair of crispi nevadas for a 7 day hunt and my left Achilles was hurting for the last few days of the hunt and then a few days after that.

I had some summits that gave me tendinitis as well. I moved on. For the longest time I thought it was permanent but it eventually went away.

I tried different lacing techniques to lock my heel better and also put some moleskin around my Achilles and that seemed to help quite a bit. So far, so good.

I’ll give this a try, weird it’s only happening on my left, right side fits like a glove and they both seemed fine but not anymore
